The Langham, Jakarta has launched The Langham Afternoon Tea Book at ALICE by Tom Aikens, introducing a dining experience inspired by the hotel group’s long-standing afternoon tea tradition that dates back to 1865. The launch marks part of The Langham’s celebration of its 161-year heritage as one of the pioneers of the British afternoon tea ritual.

Presented as both a dining programme and cookbook release, The Langham Afternoon Tea Book combines recipes, tea-pairing guidance, and patisserie techniques drawn from The Langham’s tea rooms around the world. Guests dining at ALICE by Tom Aikens can experience a menu directly inspired by dishes featured in the publication.

Afternoon Tea Inspired by The Langham’s Heritage

The afternoon tea experience begins with a selection of classic savouries, including Coronation Chicken Curry, Homemade Smoked Salmon, Classic Cucumber, and Roasted Beef sandwiches, reflecting traditional British afternoon tea elements.

The savoury course is followed by The Langham’s signature scones, served in both plain and raisin varieties alongside homemade orange marmalade, strawberry jam, and clotted cream.

The pastry selection includes desserts such as Red Velvet Cake and Pistachio and Raspberry Flower, alongside savoury creations including Salmon Waffle, Warm French Onion Quiche, and Beef Tartare Cone. The menu is paired with teas from French tea house Dammann Frères.

Bringing Afternoon Tea into Book Form

The cookbook itself is designed as both a culinary guide and a reflection of The Langham’s afternoon tea heritage. In addition to recipes, the book includes tea-pairing recommendations and sections covering pastry fundamentals, allowing readers to recreate selected dishes at home.

“Afternoon Tea has long been at the heart of The Langham’s identity, dating back to the opening of our London flagship in 1865, when we became the first Grand Hotel to introduce this refined ritual to the public. Today, that enduring legacy continues to inspire us,” said Alexander Poindl, General Manager of The Langham, Jakarta. “With the creation of The Langham Afternoon Tea Book, and its expression across our hotels, we bring this timeless tradition to life—inviting our guests to experience and share in a heritage that has gracefully defined The Langham for generations.”

The Langham Afternoon Tea at ALICE by Tom Aikens is available at IDR 998,000++ for two persons, or IDR 1,368,000++ for two persons including one Afternoon Tea Book. Selected dishes are also available à la carte starting from IDR 298,000++.

With the launch, The Langham, Jakarta continues to expand its culinary offerings through experiences rooted in British dining traditions while adapting them for contemporary hotel dining in Jakarta.
