Held on August 1–2, 2026 at LC Smokehouse, the collaboration, titled “Dari Timur ke Barat: American Smoke, Indonesian Soul,” brought together the cooking techniques of American barbecue and the spices and flavors associated with Manado cuisine.
The collaboration was led by Chef Noor Setyoutomo, Chef Owner of LC Smokehouse, and Chef Jovan Koraag, Chef Owner of Mata Karanjang. Together, they explored how long-smoking techniques could be combined with the complex, spicy profiles of North Sulawesi cuisine.
The limited-time menu included Grill Wagyu Burnt Ends Ragey, featuring 12-hour-smoked Wagyu brisket with green rica sambal; Smoked Wagyu Brisket Rica Merah, pairing 12-hour-smoked MB 6+ Wagyu brisket with red rica sambal; and Smoked Salmon Gohu, which combined five-hour cold-smoked salmon with fresh gohu seasoning.
The menu also featured Bakwan Jagung Jalapeño, an Indonesian corn fritter with jalapeño, and Nasi Jaha, a North Sulawesi preparation of glutinous rice, coconut milk, and spices served as an accompaniment to the dishes.
Beyond the food, the two-day programme included a live BBQ carving station, beer pairing experience, and a media and content creator session on the first day. The second day opened with a community run activation before continuing with a culinary experience and social gathering.
“From East to West is not just a collaboration between two restaurants, but an exploration of how different culinary cultures can come together to create new experiences while still respecting their respective traditional roots,” said Chef Jovan Koraag-Kambey.
The collaboration was presented as a limited-edition menu that was not part of either restaurant’s regular offering, giving diners a chance to experience the combination during the two-day event.
Both restaurants have also received recent recognition for their culinary offerings. LC Smokehouse and Mata Karanjang was named among Indonesia’s Top 100 Restaurants by Best Eats by FoodieS 2026.
“Through this collaboration, we hope LC Smokehouse and Mata Karanjang do more than just present a special-edition menu; we aim to help drive culinary innovations that elevate the richness of Indonesian gastronomy through fresh and relevant interpretations that can be enjoyed by a wider audience of food lovers,” said Chef Noor Setyoutomo.
