Premium steakhouse concepts are increasingly evolving beyond traditional dining, and AB Steak Jakarta by Chef Akira Back is positioning itself at the forefront of that shift with the launch of Grill The Extraordinary, a year-long programme centred on immersive dining experiences.
Rather than focusing solely on premium cuts of beef, the campaign combines chef collaborations, seasonal menu launches, live entertainment, curated beverage programmes, and special dining events, reflecting a growing demand for restaurants that offer experiences beyond the plate.
Founded by internationally acclaimed chef Akira Back, AB Steak draws inspiration from the communal culture of Korean dining, where grilling, sharing dishes, and gathering around the table are integral to the experience. The concept currently operates in Beverly Hills, San Francisco, and Jakarta, blending premium steakhouse traditions with Korean culinary influences through Chef Akira’s contemporary approach.
Located in Senayan City, the restaurant accommodates up to 180 guests across its main dining room and nine private dining rooms, making it one of Jakarta’s largest premium Korean steakhouses for both social gatherings and corporate occasions.
One of AB Steak’s defining features is its in-house dry-ageing programme, which incorporates traditional Korean ingredients such as doenjang and ssamjang into the ageing process. The technique produces distinctive flavour profiles while maintaining the characteristics of premium beef cuts. Alongside rotating seasonal selections, the menu also features signature dishes including AB Wagyu Pizza, dry-aged steak specialities, and desserts by Corporate Executive Pastry Chef Sharon Augustine.
The restaurant’s culinary direction is led by Chef Akira Back, whose career has expanded from professional snowboarding into an international restaurant portfolio spanning Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. Recognised for his Michelin-acclaimed dining concepts, Chef Akira continues to shape AB Steak alongside Corporate Executive Chef William Rusli, who has overseen the brand’s expansion across several international markets, including Jakarta, Riyadh, and Bangkok.
Throughout the year, Grill The Extraordinary will feature a calendar of guest chef collaborations, bar takeovers, live performances, and exclusive dining events designed to introduce new culinary experiences on a regular basis. Building on previous collaborations with chefs, bartenders, and hospitality professionals, the initiative reflects the restaurant’s focus on creating an evolving lifestyle destination rather than a conventional steakhouse.
As Jakarta’s dining landscape continues to embrace more experience-driven concepts, AB Steak aims to challenge traditional perceptions of premium steakhouses by offering a more relaxed and social environment where food, beverages, entertainment, and hospitality come together. Through Grill The Extraordinary, the restaurant seeks to position Korean-inspired steakhouse dining as an experience centred as much on gathering and interaction as it is on the food itself.
