A new dining and nightlife venue has opened in Semarang with the launch of ZERU Sky Terrace, a rooftop destination located on the ninth floor of Padma Hotel Semarang. Officially opening on 5 December 2025, ZERU adds a new dimension to the city’s growing food-and-drink landscape, combining fire-driven cooking, cocktails, and a listening bar atmosphere in a single setting.
At the heart of ZERU is a menu shaped by a coastal Mediterranean approach, with an emphasis on cooking over fire. The kitchen focuses on grilled meats and seafood, alongside spice-forward dishes influenced by Southern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. Techniques centred on live fire, grilling, and aromatic seasoning form the backbone of the offering, resulting in flavours that are bold without leaning on excess.
The food programme is paired with a cocktail list designed to transition easily from late afternoon into the evening. Rather than positioning itself solely as a dining room or a bar, ZERU operates as an all-evening venue, accommodating early dinners, sunset drinks, and late-night conversations within the same space.
Sound plays an equally important role in defining the experience. Conceived as a listening bar, ZERU hosts vinyl DJ sessions with a curated music programme that evolves throughout the night. The intention is to create a setting where music, mood, and social interaction develop gradually, supporting both relaxed gatherings and more extended evenings.
Spatially, the venue is divided into several distinct zones, including an indoor listening lounge, a dedicated dining area, and an outdoor terrace overlooking Semarang’s skyline. Adding a performative element to the experience are tableside presentations such as Bone Torching and a Smoking Tagine, which bring fire and aroma directly into the dining room without overwhelming the meal itself.
Speaking on the opening, Inez Teressa, Executive Assistant Manager of Padma Hotel Semarang, said, “ZERU Sky Terrace represents our ambition to introduce a more elevated, experience-driven dining culture to Semarang. By combining fire-led culinary craftsmanship, curated mixology, and a listening-bar ambience, we aim to create a destination that inspires both our local community and discerning travellers.”
