As a homegrown Indonesian hospitality group, Plataran debuted in 2009 with a vision of contributing to Indonesia and Indonesians by showcasing to the world the rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage of this remarkable archipelago.
Not only through luxury inns all over Indonesia’s beautiful destinations, but Plataran also extends its mission through its offering of authentic Indonesian gastronomy.
For instance, their signature ‘Ayam Celengan’ is drawn from Indonesia’s Ayam Celengan (an Indonesian equivalent of the piggy bank, a money box that resembles a chicken). Just like the money box taught us that good things come to those who wait, Plataran embodies this sentiment by carefully slow-cooking the whole chicken in fresh herbs marination, then roasted and served with veggies. A dish that is nostalgic and definitely well worth waiting for.
In another dish, Plataran took a very traditional approach to a popular staple of Padang cuisine, Dendeng Batokok (thinly sliced beef jerky, seasoned and fried). Not only does this dish showcase the rich flavors, but it is also an homage to the Minangkabau people who are famous for their long expeditions, hence the effort to preserve meat.
To showcase these kinds of flavors and stories of the archipelago, Plataran’s culinary crew travels nonstop, drawing inspiration from recipes and ingredients from all over the country. When Plataran returns to their kitchen, they then combine heritage and flavors with modern influences and cooking techniques without obliterating the authenticity. As a result, their menu succeeds in highlighting Indonesian cuisine, serving a wide array of classic Indonesian to the world’s palate.
“Plataran Friends Of The Museum” With Museum Macan
This January, Plataran celebrates its 14th anniversary on January 24th, 2023. This anniversary marks Plataran’s continuous dedication to the tourism sector and Indonesia. So, as their form of appreciation to the community, Plataran held several collaborative workshops with 14 local organizations throughout Indonesia with the theme “Karya Untuk Bangsa” (Creation for the Nation), covering a variety of inspiring topics throughout the month. One of them is the ‘Plataran Friends of the Museum.’ Collaborating with Museum MACAN, Plataran Indonesia seeks to support and contribute to the developing art education program and is committed to making art accessible and enjoyable for the public.
Held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, the participants gather at Hutan Kota by Plataran, followed by a tour of the Museum MACAN. There, they get to exclusively visit and learn about Museum MACAN’s recent major exhibition entitled The Soul Trembles by Chiharu Shiota, a Japanese artist who lives in Berlin. The art tour participants had the opportunity to soak in Shiota’s nearly thirty years of work in detail. Afterward, the participants were back to Hutan Kota by Plataran to enjoy a delicious Indonesian-inspired brunch featuring Plataran’s signature menu.
