Bengaluru’s Farmlore has been awarded the prestigious American Express One To Watch Award for 2025, recognizing its potential to become a standout in the region’s culinary scene. This accolade, part of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, highlights establishments that demonstrate exceptional culinary talent and creativity, as determined by the votes of the Academy and specific editorial criteria.

Located on a sprawling 37-acre farm, Farmlore offers an intimate 18-seat dining experience crafted by chef Johnson Ebenezer and entrepreneur Kaushik Raju. The restaurant embraces a farm-to-table philosophy, emphasizing seasonality, sustainability, and local produce. Its name, a blend of “folklore” and “locavore,” reflects its commitment to celebrating regional ingredients and cultural narratives. The menu, shaped by the freshest harvests from the farm, features a strong South Indian influence while maintaining a cuisine-agnostic approach.

William Drew, Director of Content for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, praised Farmlore for its immersive dining experience, which begins with a stroll through lush mango and coconut groves, educating guests on natural farming principles. He commended chef Johnson and the team for their well-deserved recognition.

The restaurant’s menu evolves with the seasons, prioritizing ethical and organic farming practices that preserve soil health and produce nutrient-rich ingredients. Diners can expect a variety of dishes, including intriguing bites featuring foraged ants, charred octopus from Rameswaram, and goat milk with beet chips. Each meal is prepared in gas-free kitchens using a giant wood-fired oven and pit stove.

Farmlore’s design harmonizes with its natural surroundings, featuring earthy tones and a minimalist aesthetic that fosters a direct connection to nature. The establishment is powered entirely by solar and renewable energy, employing traditional farming techniques to enhance soil quality.

Chef Johnson expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to doing things the right way while prioritizing ethics over expediency.” He emphasized the importance of staying true to their roots and the younger generation of chefs who are committed to their culinary heritage.

Pablo Rivero, Senior Vice President of American Express Global Dining, highlighted Farmlore’s unique approach to the farm-to-table movement, infusing local ingredients and culture into every aspect of the dining experience.

Farmlore will be celebrated at the awards ceremony on March 25, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The event will also be streamed live on the 50 Best YouTube channel, allowing food enthusiasts to follow the announcement of the awards in real-time.
