Sanur has a new Japanese dining destination with the opening of Noku Japanese Resto, a restaurant on Jalan Sudamala that combines an open kitchen, interactive counter seating, and a menu spanning sushi, sashimi, robata, and contemporary izakaya-style dishes.
Located in Sanur Kauh, Noku centers its dining experience around the preparation and presentation of its food. Guests seated at the counter can watch the chefs work up close, while the open kitchen provides a view of the cooking process and the ingredients being used. The restaurant also has an outdoor seating area overlooking the streets of Sanur.
The menu extends beyond sushi, with the robata grill serving as one of its main features. Using open-flame cooking over charcoal, the grill is used for ingredients including chicken, beef, prawns, and fresh fish, bringing a smoky character to the dishes. The sushi and sashimi selection offers a lighter contrast, focusing on fresh seafood and simpler preparations.
Noku also incorporates izakaya-style dishes into its menu, with small plates designed for sharing. The approach allows diners to order a variety of dishes across different cooking styles rather than focusing solely on sushi or sashimi.
The restaurant describes its concept through the philosophy that “every dish has a story to tell,” with the kitchen and counter designed to make the preparation process part of the dining experience.
Noku operates from Tuesday to Sunday, 11AM to 11PM WITA, serving both lunch and dinner. Its interior combines contemporary Japanese influences with a relatively relaxed setting, while the outdoor area offers another option for diners looking to eat alongside the activity of Sanur.
