The Locavore Group have revealed that they have a new restaurant concept – Herbivore – opening in their original downtown Ubud venue this December, and tables are now available to book. A permanent vegetation takeover of Locavore’s old home, Herbivore invites guests to a wildly different “all flora, no fauna” experience of their local-ingredients-only philosophy.
“Locavore always had a plant-based tasting menu available called ‘Herbivore’, and we are already pretty big on finding alternatives to animal protein as well as not using dairy. Taking the step to create a space that can focus on the celebration of local plants only makes a lot of sense to us,” said Eelke Plasmeijer Locavore’s chef owner.
Guests can choose from a five (lunch only) or seven course tasting menu created by head chef Arnaud Hauchon, with rice-based alcoholic beverage pairings or a seriously crafted non-alcoholic pairing.
Chef Arnaud says, “Our debut menu is designed to be generous and comforting – a gentle, first culinary exploration of local flora, with bold and clean flavours from the island’s most iconic ingredients mingled with lesser known and wilder ones. It’s a warm welcome to restaurant Herbivore.”
Locavore recently closed after 10 years as a small restaurant in downtown Ubud as they prepare to open their new project, Locavore NXT, in a different nearby location. Locavore NXT is also due to open in December 2023.
