Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded Single Malt Scotch Whisky proudly continues its tradition of uniting changemakers through the Where Next Club, to celebrate its 130-year legacy by honoring those who embody challenger spirit, passion and innovation of Glenfiddich, known as The Mavericks. This year, Glenfiddich takes pride in introducing Amalia Wirjono, Joko Anwar, and Samuel Wongso as the chosen Mavericks – while individually unique, are bound together by a shared commitment to excellence and a profound impact on their respective industries.
To honor the Maverick’s outstanding achievements, Glenfiddich hosted the Grand Finale, on 19 December, 2023 at Park Hyatt Jakarta. The event gathered esteemed guests celebrating alongside like-minded entrepreneurs, and media, sharing stories of inspiration and recognizing the ‘Single Best Quality’ that sets them apart.
Glenfiddich, steeped in a rich history, cherishes the essence of tradition, resilience, and evolution. Yet, Glenfiddich seamlessly blends their legacy with modern Mavericks’ tales, bridging the Mavericks of the past with those forging tomorrow’s path. Always continually challenging itself to break new ground in whisky-making, Glenfiddich put forward the Where Next Club campaign to advocate innovation and milestones of oneself.
Articulating her perspective on the Where Next journey, Amalia Wirjono, Head of Development at Museum Macan, embodies the Maverick spirit as she emphasizes the necessity to create and embrace global standard programs within the local art industry. “I believe in the power of staying attuned to the pulse of the present. By constantly updating my understanding of current situations and trends, I am empowered to craft programs that are not only relevant but inherently captivating. This approach allows us to consistently captivate the diverse audience that graces our museum, fostering a dynamic connection between art and individuals from all walks of life on our Where Next journey,” she affirms. Her unwavering commitment to art and culture shines through in her meticulously designed projects, inspiring the masses.
Film Director, Joko Anwar, represents Glenfiddich’s maverick spirit, showcasing dedication to the uncharted horizons of cinema. ‘Where Next?’ is not just a question to him, but a mantra that echoes in the corridors of his creative soul. His works exemplify narratives unspoken while setting new standards for the Indonesian film industry. In line with Glenfiddich’s challenger spirit, he says, “I never want to do the same type of film twice. I don’t believe in comfort zone. As I conclude each film, it’s a quest for exploring unseen experiences, collaborating across cultures to create films that are not just stories, but journeys into the unknown. I believe we will continue to be creatively alive if we don’t stop exploring new possibilities and territories, forever driven by the challenge.”
Bringing an innovative approach and setting a new standard in tailoring is what Samuel Wongso, Co-Owner & Suit Designer of Wong Hang Tailor does best. Reflecting on his passion and success in the world of tailoring, he highlights the vision of legacy with Glenfiddich, stating, “‘Where Next?’ is not just a question, but a journey of discovery, much like the path Glenfiddich treads in whisky-making. It’s an invitation to innovate, to push the boundaries of design while staying anchored in the timeless virtues of Wong Hang Tailor. Like the distinct character of Glenfiddich, rooted in tradition yet evolving with modernity, I envision my creations reflecting a legacy of quality interwoven with innovation. I hope to see my pieces being inherited from generations – enduring, evolving, and exceptional”.
