Ramadan dining in Jakarta has traditionally centred on Middle Eastern and Indonesian cuisines, but in recent years restaurants have begun exploring alternative interpretations of iftar. Japanese cuisine, with its emphasis on balance, portion control, and seasonality, offers a format that aligns naturally with the reflective pace of the holy month.

This Ramadan, Keyaki Japanese Restaurant at Pan Pacific Jakarta introduces The Art of Chōwa: A Harmony of Japanese Iftar Above the City, a full Japanese iftar served on Level 90 of the Luminary Tower. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of chōwa (調和), or harmony, the menu is structured around light umami flavours, measured portions, and layered techniques designed to restore energy after a day of fasting.

The meal begins with gentle, palate-awakening elements. Yuzu Kurma Compote presents premium Medjool dates infused with citrus, offering a subtle variation on the traditional iftar starter. This is followed by Matcha Panna Cotta with kuromitsu and Sakura Water with aloe and shiratama, balancing familiar sweetness with restrained freshness.

At the Sashimi Live Stall, diners are served clean cuts of Tasmanian salmon, Lombok maguro, Pacific seabass, and white ika. The portions are intentionally moderate, reflecting Japanese dining philosophy while allowing for ease of digestion.

Warm courses follow at the Robatayaki Grill, where wagyu skewers and Australian ribeye are prepared over open fire. The Wagyu Sukiyaki Live Station presents Tokyo-style sukiyaki, featuring thinly sliced Australian wagyu simmered in a sweet-savory sauce with seasonal vegetables and tofu. Served with onsen tamago, the dish provides depth and warmth, anchoring the iftar experience in comforting flavours.

The Teppanyaki Live Grill adds further variety, offering Australian wagyu ribeye alongside chicken thigh, gindara, king prawn, and seasonal vegetables, each cooked à la minute to preserve natural flavour.

Desserts maintain the programme’s emphasis on lightness and balance. Japanese Sakura Flower Mochi and Mini Dorayaki filled with azuki beans conclude the meal with refined sweetness, aligned with Ramadan’s reflective spirit rather than overt indulgence.

The Art of Chōwa is available throughout Ramadan at Keyaki Japanese Restaurant, priced from IDR 588,000++ per person
