Chontea & Co, the Japanese-inspired tea salon known for its serene approach to tea and design-led spaces, has officially opened its first Jakarta location at Plaza Senayan, situated within the Yashinoki Yokocho precinct on Level P5. Following its popularity in Ubud and Seminyak, Bali, the Jakarta outlet continues the brand’s philosophy of offering tea as both ritual and experience.

Originating in Bali, Chontea & Co has developed a strong identity around Japanese tea culture—particularly matcha and hojicha—while introducing modern elements such as experimental coffee and tea-tail cocktails. The space in Plaza Senayan brings that same refined energy to the capital, with a clean, minimalist layout and a tea-focused menu that is both structured and exploratory.

As part of their launch, Chontea & Co offers various tasting experiences, including an omakase-style tea and food pairing menu. During a recent visit, we had the chance to experience their Hojicha Omakase, a curated journey that paired food with different expressions of hojicha. The experience wasn’t just about taste—it was educational. We learned to identify subtle distinctions in roast levels, aroma profiles, and texture, offering a perspective on hojicha that many might overlook. It felt less like a meal and more like a guided meditation on the depth of Japanese tea.

This kind of program exemplifies Chontea & Co’s broader mission, to create a space where guests can slow down and develop a deeper appreciation for single-origin teas, craftsmanship, and intentional presentation. The format also encourages conversation and curiosity—without being overly formal.

With daily operations from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, Chontea & Co adds to Plaza Senayan’s evolving food and beverage scene, providing a quiet escape in the heart of Jakarta. For those familiar with the Bali outlets, the Jakarta location brings that same sense of calm and ceremony—now more accessible for city dwellers.

As Japanese-style tea salons become more visible in Southeast Asia, Chontea & Co sets itself apart by focusing on depth, design, and education—bridging everyday rituals with refined storytelling, one cup at a time.
