Indonesian grab-and-go coffee chain Kenangan Coffee has taken its next major step in global expansion with the official opening of its first outlet in Sydney, Australia, on 14 April 2025. This marks the brand’s debut in the Australian market and its first entry outside of Asia, positioning it as a growing player in the global coffee scene.

The expansion is part of a broader strategy by parent company Kenangan Brands, which oversees several brands including Kopi Kenangan and Kenangan Coffee. Entering the Australian market reflects the company’s commitment to bringing Southeast Asian coffee flavors to a wider international audience, offering high-quality coffee at accessible prices for global consumers.

The opening in Sydney also coincides with a significant achievement for the brand—the launch of Kenangan Brands’ 1,000th outlet, located in Solo, Central Java. This flagship outlet occupies an iconic building with traditional Javanese architecture, showcasing the brand’s ongoing dedication to embracing and highlighting Indonesian coffee culture in both local and international expansions.

Following its launch in Sydney, Kenangan Coffee plans to continue its growth in Australia with a second outlet in Melbourne. The brand already has a strong international presence with 98 outlets in Malaysia, 7 in Singapore, 2 in the Philippines, and 1 in India.

Australia was selected as the next destination for expansion due to its large and enthusiastic coffee-drinking population, making it a strategic market for introducing Southeast Asian-inspired coffee offerings.

Edward Tirtanata, Co-Founder and Group CEO of Kenangan Brands, commented, “Reaching 1,000 outlets in Indonesia is a meaningful milestone for us, but it’s only the beginning of Kopi Kenangan’s journey. We want to take Indonesian coffee even further, and expanding into Australia is a major step toward that goal. We believe our coffee will be appreciated and loved by coffee enthusiasts there, just as it has been in Indonesia.”

The brand’s signature drink, the Kenangan Latte made with Indonesian palm sugar, will remain a core item on the menu at international outlets. The menu will also be adapted with curated beverage selections tailored to local Australian preferences, reflecting the brand’s strategy of blending authenticity with localization.

Through this expansion, Kenangan Coffee aims to introduce the flavors of Indonesian coffee to a broader audience while also supporting the global recognition of the Indonesian coffee industry.
