Independent, family-owned distiller William Grant & Sons has officially launched The Distillers Library in Bumi Pakubuwono, Kebayoran Baru, ushering in a new era of whisky and luxury in Indonesia. Designed to be a haven for whisky enthusiasts, guests to The Distillers Library will enjoy exquisite hospitality on their journey of learning and discovery led by Brand Ambassadors. A retail store will be open to all consumers who wish to purchase bottlings from the core range of William Grant & Sons including Glenfiddich and The Balvenie. Nestled within The Distillers Library is also an invite-only space housing some of the rarest and most precious treasures from the family’s archives. Rare offerings within the William Grant & Sons luxury portfolio will be introduced and available at The Distillers Library – and nowhere else.
“We are seeing a rising demand for luxury malts across categories in Indonesia. Through The Distillers Library, we wanted to create a space for learning and exploration, no matter where you may be on your whisky journey. Whether you’re new to whisky, or a collector, there will always be something new to uncover here,” said Will Peacock, Global Luxury Director at William Grant & Sons. “We look forward to creating opportunities for mindful discovery through the rich heritage and unparalleled craftsmanship of our flagship brands Glenfiddich and The Balvenie.”
The Grant family’s storied legacy began in 1887 when William Grant built his first distillery with the help of his nine children and a single stonemason, in the Northeast of Scotland, with the ambition to create the ‘best dram in the valley’. Six generations later, William Grant & Sons, pioneer of the single malt category, remains family-owned and the spirit of independence, determination and innovation held by founder, William Grant, lives on at the company’s core. Pulled from the family’s archive, each precious whisky at The Distillers Library tells a tale of heritage and tradition.
These include rare expressions of Glenfiddich, the World’s Most Awarded Single Malt Whisky. Glenfiddich has excelled for more than a hundred and thirty years, since it first ran from the stills on Christmas Day, 1887. Since then, Malt Master Brian Kinsman has embodied William Grant’s spirit of innovation through exquisite finishings and new expressions. While Glenfiddich is now the world’s best-selling single malt Scotch whisky, the brand is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family-owned and is still produced in the same distillery which William Grant and his family hand-built.
Guests of The Distillers Library will also get to experience limited bottlings of The Balvenie. The Balvenie is dedicated to the five rare crafts that are used to create its distinctive taste – growing its own barley, using traditional floor maltings, keeping both coppersmiths and coopers on site, and the expertise of Malt Master David Stewart.
As part of the launch of The Distillers Library in Jakarta, William Grant & Sons will be bringing to Indonesia shores the Ladyburn Edition One – a 54-year-old whisky that was distilled in 1966 – the first in a collection of strictly private releases of the ghost Ladyburn distillery. Created in the 1960s, the distillery was one of the most technologically advanced single malt Scotch distilleries of its time and a subject of great pride for the Grant family. However, due to the economic crises of the decades, the distillery was forced to close in the mid-1970s, and its stills went to The Balvenie and Glenfiddich, along with all of the knowledge and learnings. A true capsule in time, Ladyburn Edition One is a highly collectible and compelling piece of history, created in partnership with renowned UK photographer – David Bailey.
The Distillers Library will host a curated portfolio of exceptionally rare expressions from William Grant & Sons’ oldest, deepest and most comprehensive reserves, regularly updated for invited guests to make new discoveries with every visit. Beyond Ladyburn, connoisseurs and collectors can expect other limited-edition collections, exceptional bottlings, and precious whiskies.
