Approaching its 20th anniversary celebration in May, Starbucks continues to strengthen its presence in Indonesia by opening more than 490 stores, along with more than 4,000 partners who proudly wear the green aprons to this day. After opening its first stores in Sukabumi and Tasikmalaya at the end of February, Starbucks Indonesia announced its entry into Madiun on April 25th and Kediri on 27th.
The opening of the two stores demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to Indonesia, where it serves local communities in 36 cities since they’re entering those cities.
“We’re so excited to bring the Starbucks experience to our customers and open new opportunities for partners in Madiun and Kediri,” said Anthony McEvoy, Starbucks Leader at PT Sari Coffee Indonesia. “In Indonesia, we want to grow and develop in a unique way for the brand, the partners involved and of course the customers and the community. Madiun and Kediri are the right cities for Starbucks Indonesia to expand in East Java this year,” he added.
Strategically located economically, Madiun and Kediri are surrounded by historical cities and nature, and are renowned for their local cuisine. Starbucks partners and customers have eagerly anticipated the opening of these two stores.
The Starbucks HOS Cokroaminoto Madiun store stands in the heart of the city, precisely on Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto no 40 and will be opened to the public on April 26, 2022. It has been a byword since late 2021, this store is expected to become a meeting place for consumers in Madiun and its surroundings who can unite the community while enjoying a cup of coffee. Standing in a two-story building, customers are greeted with a siren painting on the wall near the stairs as well as fish scale-inspired ornaments on wooden posts and ceilings. In addition, customers will also face a three-by-four-meter wide painting on the second floor that tells the bean-to-cup story of Starbucks. Also dedicated to Starbucks Delivers, this two-floor building sets a dedicated 8m2 convenient space for delivery partners’ right at the side of the store.
Standing on an area of 302m2, the Starbucks Diponegoro Kediri store captures the public’s attention with its distinctive building structured in the form of a Dutch colonial house. By design, this store still maintains the ‘homey’ main building with a long cozy sofa in the center so that it can greet customers more personally. This store will start serving customers on April 28, 2022.
With partners spread throughout Indonesia, Starbucks continues to grow with several achievements, from opening the Starbucks Dewata Coffee Sanctuary in 2018 to starting the Greener Nusantara initiative to support waste reduction throughout Indonesia, such as eliminating more than 30 million straws through the introduction of strawless lids in 2020 and fully switched to rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) cold cup in 2021, and implemented the monthly Bring Your Own Tumbler program in all stores.
Together with partners and the surrounding community, Starbucks continues to be committed to creating a positive impact together. The first Community Store in Tanah Abang Jakarta was opened in 2020 to support the creation of educational opportunities for youth in Tanah Abang, followed by the Starbucks Creative Youth Entrepreneurship Program to support youth empowerment. In addition, more than 500 thousand coffee seeds have been donated to coffee farmers through the Art in the Cup program, in collaboration with the Farmer Support Center in Berastagi, North Sumatra. And in appreciation to health workers who have been working tirelessly during the pandemic, more than 50 thousand cups of beverages have been donated to hospitals and vaccination centers.
