To mark its 23rd anniversary, Starbucks Indonesia has opened its 23rd Starbucks Reserve store, located at Agora Thamrin Nine inside Autograph Tower—the tallest building in the country. This milestone reflects not only the company’s continued growth in Indonesia, but also its deep connection to Indonesian coffee culture and heritage.
The store’s design pays tribute to the natural beauty and importance of Mount Kerinci in Sumatra. Mount Kerinci is the highest volcano in Southeast Asia and a significant growing area for Starbucks’ Arabica coffee beans. At the Reserve store, the ceiling is made of warm wood panels, and botanical motifs on the floor reflect the feel of a rainforest at the foot of the mountain. The mezzanine level offers a calm atmosphere, featuring installations of suspended coffee blossoms that evoke the morning mist and peaceful scenery from the mountain’s summit.
Liryawati, Chief Operating Officer of PT Sari Coffee Indonesia, said the opening of the new Reserve store is a celebration of Starbucks’ long-standing connection with Indonesian coffee. Since Starbucks first opened its doors in 1971 at Pike Place Market in Seattle, Indonesia has played an important role, with Sumatran coffee becoming a key part of many signature blends. Today, about 40 percent of Starbucks’ coffee beans come from Indonesia, underscoring the country’s significance to the global coffee supply chain.
This month also highlights Indonesia on the world stage through the Starbucks Global Barista Championship held in Las Vegas. Representing both Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region, barista George Wenno competed at the international event after earning second place in the Asia Pacific round in 2024. The championship brings together top baristas from around the world—including from China, Japan, Europe, the Americas, and all six Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in cities such as Seattle, Tokyo, and Milan. It was the first global edition of the event, celebrating the talent, creativity, and commitment of Starbucks baristas everywhere.
In connection with these milestones, Starbucks launched a campaign themed INDONESIA, SIAP!, celebrating the country’s identity and its contribution to the coffee world. Every weekend in July 2025, customers across Indonesia can enjoy a complimentary add-on of Sumatran coffee in their favorite drinks—sharing the taste of Indonesia with everyone, from longtime fans to first-time visitors.
“This is more than just an anniversary,” said Liryawati. “It’s a reminder of the value of Indonesian coffee, the dedication of its farmers, and the stories that connect each cup to people around the world.” Starbucks Reserve Agora Thamrin Nine now stands as a space that reflects not only the craft of coffee but also the pride of a nation.
