Jakarta’s coffee culture is about to gain a new flavor with the arrival of Oriental Kopi, a Malaysian brand known for its mix of traditional dishes and café favorites. The first outlets are set to open in Jabodetabek, introducing Indonesian diners to a style of Malaysian comfort food that has already built a loyal following across the border.

The expansion is being carried out through PT Era Oriental Kopi, a joint venture between Erajaya Food & Nourishment (part of Erajaya Group) and Oriental Coffee International Sdn. Bhd. The partnership brings together Erajaya’s local reach and Oriental Kopi’s established recipes, service approach, and brand identity. The idea is to recreate the same dining experience found in Malaysia, while making it part of Jakarta’s everyday food landscape.

Jeremy Sim, CEO of Erajaya Food & Nourishment, noted that interest in Oriental Kopi among Indonesian consumers has been strong even before the brand’s official launch. For him, this shows how ready the market is for a taste of Malaysian café culture. From Malaysia, Dato’ Calvin Chan Jian Chern, Managing Director of Oriental Kopi Holdings Berhad, described Indonesia as a natural step for the brand. He pointed to the shared appreciation for rich flavors and culinary traditions between the two countries, and stressed the importance of keeping the food authentic and the service consistent.

Beyond the cafés themselves, the collaboration also looks toward lifestyle concepts and consumer products that carry the Oriental Kopi name. For Jakarta, the arrival of Oriental Kopi adds another layer to its growing café and dining landscape, blending Malaysian heritage with the city’s appetite for new culinary experiences.
