ModernHaus from The Union Group has been named The Best Bar in Indonesia 2025 and is ranked No. 12 at the recently concluded Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards held at the stunning Wynn Palace resort in Macau. Affectionately called the Oscars of the drinks and bar world.

The other winning Indonesia bars are: The St. Regis Bar Jakarta (No. 22), Carrots (No. 34), Cosmo Pony (No. 38). Also good to note are the two bars on the extended 51-100 List: Pantja (No. 68) and The Golden Tooth (No. 98).

ModernHaus was opened in 2024 by bar veteran Mirwansyah Bule in collaboration with The Union Group, Modernhaus Jakarta quickly established itself as a standout destination for cocktail lovers. The bar’s name itself carries a dual meaning: haus references both the architectural idea of a home and the Indonesian word for ‘thirsty.’

Blending mid-century design with inventive drinks, the venue reflects Jakarta’s evolving identity in Asia’s bar scene. More like a living room than a bar, the layout maintains no separation between bartender and guest. Guests can join the central communal table or settle into one of the more secluded corners of the room. At the core of the Modernhaus menu is Bule’s love for plants. Each of the sixteen cocktails is designed around different parts of a plant — divided into four sections: leaves, roots, flowers, and fruits. All ingredients are locally sourced, highlighting Indonesia’s botanical diversity.

We are humbled to be named The Best Bar in Indonesia, and very happy that this year we are joined in the list by more fellow Indonesian bars than ever. It’s an honor that our team at Modernhaus will answer with even better things this year,” shares Bule.

Each of these Jakarta bars on the list has their own distinct concept and unique selling point. The St. Regis Bar Jakarta at No.22 is known for its polished service, live jazz band , and attention to detail. In true St. Regis form, their signature cocktail, the Batavia Mary is a Jakarta tribute to the classic Bloody Mary, inspired by multicultural culinary heritage found throughout Indonesia. Showcasing locally-made arak, vinegar and sambal oelek to express the unique and bold flavors of Jakarta.

“It’s the talent and heart of our team that transform each visit to The St. Regis Bar Jakarta into an experience our guests feel seen, cared for, and inspired,” shares Konstantin Nemolochnyi, director of food and beverage of The St. Regis Jakarta.

At No.34, Carrots Bar stands out for its culinary-forward cocktail approach and intimate setting at a SCBD basement parking lot setting. Rounding out the list is Cosmo Pony at No.38, barely a year old, the fruit of the marriage of two great houses, Jakarta’s The Union Group and Singapore’s Jigger & Pony Group, offering convivial hospitality and a cosmopolitan drinks experience. Together, these four bars reflect the rising standard, creativity, and global ambition of Indonesia’s cocktail community.

Standing there at the Grand Theatre of the Wynn Palace waiting as the countdown to the 50 best bars were being called out, I couldn’t help but feel nervous, excited and proud for the Jakarta bar friends around me. I have been to all their bars, drank many of their cocktails, spent many nights at their venues. I could see all their faces, they were nervous and excited too, I felt immense pride for them, I was part of Team Indonesia. This is the highest number of bars that Indonesia has ever had on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list in its history, and I was there in the hall to witness it happen. We were making history.

Asia’s 50 Best Bars is an annual ranking of the best bars in Asia. It is a ‘snapshot’ of the opinions and experiences of 300+ bar industry experts from across Asia. What constitutes ‘best’ is left to the judgement of these trusted and well-travelled experts. Voting is confidential and adjudicated by an independent accounting firm. The voting panel is composed of bar industry experts, 1/3 bartenders and bar owners, 1/3 drinks writers and 1/3 global cocktail experts. Voters are given up to 7 votes, they can vote for up to 5 bars in their country and at least 2 from other countries. Voters can vote for any style of bar, there are no set criteria for the ‘best’ bar.

Emma Sleight, Head of Content for Asia’s 50 Best Bars, says: “We’re thrilled to gather in Macau with Asia’s vibrant and passionate drinks community. The region’s bars continue to redefine excellence in cocktail culture, as seen in the talent and creativity of this year’s winners. With 20 new entries, the most in recent years, this list is a testament to the boundary-pushing creativity of Asia, with truly memorable drink experiences waiting to be explored by cocktail enthusiasts.”

This is a huge opportunity for Jakarta and Indonesia as a whole. And has a huge multiplier effect on tourism. Jakarta is now put on the international stage as a drinks and bar destination with these 6 bars in the list of top 100 bars in Asia. For many bar enthusiasts around the world this is a great reason to travel to Jakarta to sample these bars – drink their cocktails and have a taste of their hospitality and see their concepts. This translates to flights, hotels and food spend. Not only that. This translates to more tourists coming to Jakarta to see what our city has to offer. These are exciting times for the F&B industry and I am happy to be part of it.
