Batique Whiskey & Cigar: A Sophisticated Whiskey Sanctuary found in Uluwatu
Whiskey is one of the most classic spirits that has existed for more than a thousand years, and now, specialty bars dedicated to this celebrated spirit are having their moment in the modern day.
With the growing enthusiasm over whiskeys, Alila Villas Uluwatu treats its guests and patrons with the unveiling of Batique Whiskey & Cigar, a speakeasy whiskey and cigar bar that is the first and only whiskey bar in Bali’s Uluwatu region.

A cozy den of discreet sophistication, Batique houses one of the most extensive collections of single malt whiskies on the island, including some real rarities that will tantalize the senses of ardent whisky lovers. These liquid treasures are complemented by a variety of fine cigars, allowing guests to indulge in the exquisite tradition of the timeless pairing.
Stepping into the mystery
An unassuming wooden door opens up into Batique Whiskey & Cigar, where guests are immediately greeted with dim lighting and intimate interiors, with leather sofas and armchairs accentuated by carpets that have been sourced from Turkey. Their comfortable and inviting bar stools and teak tables display world-class local craftsmanship.
The name ‘Batique’ is inspired by the 2,000-piece batik stamps (known as tjaps) that are set on the walls of the space. These batik stamps are made out of beautifully handmade copper with batik patterns and shapes and are used to create ‘Batik Tambal’ or batik patchwork. Originally from Java, these batik stamps that adorn the walls of this room have always been one of the highlights of the hotel. Now, the space has been transformed into an intimate lounge that houses “one of the most extensive collections of single malt whiskeys on the island.”
At Batique, both whisky connoisseurs and novices will discover a relaxed environment for unwinding and socializing with a unique design that celebrates local art and craftsmanship. Together with soft lighting, chill-out music, and selected DJ nights, Batique is a clubby, cozy place for enjoying conversation while sharing in the fine art of whisky appreciation, open daily from 5 PM till late.
Hand-crafted cocktails
Another highlight of this lounge is the custom-made U-shaped bar which invites guests to order their favorite drink from their bartender, Putu. Cocktails offered at Batique are locally-inspired by their names, such as ‘Meanwhile in Bali’ which is a refreshing pandan-flavored cocktail, as well as ‘Harmony no. 10’ which dons local flowers from Bali with Tanqueray No. 10 gin as its base.
One of Putu’s signature drinks is the Segara, an ocean-inspired cocktail with a hint of seaweed flavors, reminiscent of the Bali Ocean. Putu is fond of telling stories of his home, Bali, through the different cocktails that he serves his guests. His cocktails are aesthetically presented, pleasingly balanced and all have great mouth-feel.
Whiskey Collection and More
Batique Whiskey & Cigar had a trial run in the middle of December 2022, opening their doors to their hotel guests. In-house guests were more than eager to try this new venue.
Alila Villas Uluwatu’s General Manager Hemal Jain was extremely proud to welcome guests into this intricately designed space, serving connoisseurs top-class whiskeys from different parts of the world.
Jain shared the experience of in-house guests who stayed in the venue until late hours, seemingly enjoying the ambiance of intimacy, comfort, and understated elegance.
Described as “the den of sophistication,” guests are invited to indulge in The Art of Whiskey Appreciation, with suggestions from Batique’s resident whisky sommelier, or their “Whisky Aficionado.’
