Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the whisky known worldwide as the “Golden Dram,” has officially paved the way for a great introduction to the spirit scene in Indonesia. From 10-12 November 2022, Aberfeldy held an introductory event at Lobo Italian Bistro at The Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta Mega Kuningan. During the 3-day event, Abelferdy introduced their 12, 16, and 21-year-old whisky collection to guests from the food and beverage industry and spirit connoisseurs.

“We are excited to showcase Aberfeldy in Indonesia finally. Aberfeldy is a special whisky with a long-standing history. We believe this collection of single malts will be very suitable for the very vibrant lifestyle here,” said Navin Wazir, Country Manager of Bacardi Indonesia

Aberfeldy History & Heritage

Aberfeldy Distillery was founded by John Dewar & Sons, Ltd. in 1898. Sitting on the eastern outskirts of Aberfeldy, on the southern bank of the upper Tay, Aberfeldy gets its water, rich in alluvial gold, from the Pitilie Burn that feeds the Tay River that runs alongside the distillery. Aberfeldy’s location in the Central Highland — which is further from the coast and more humid in climate — makes this single malt less fruity but meltier with a honeyed character. The honeyed character later forms the foundation of Aberfeldy blends. The rare honeyed notes lead the Highland dram to pair very well with honey-based cocktails and create a unique connection between the whisky and the delicious natural resource.

“The water from Pitilie Burn used to process the whisky contains gold alluvial, hence the ‘Golden Dram’ name. Golden suggests smoothness and luxury, which is what you get from Aberfeldy. It has a beautiful honeyed sweetness. It has beautiful citrus notes. And as the whisky gets older, we have this marmalade note coming through, and when we add water, we get this little peach smoke that comes through at the end. When people try Aberfeldy for the first time, they are completely absorbed by it. Because there is so much for the whiskey to tell us,” says Stephanie Macleod, John Dewar & Sons Ltd. Master Blender and Malt Master.

Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection

The collection comprises three age statements: 12-Year-Old, 16-Year-Old, and 21-Year-Old. Each batch of the whisky is distilled in Alembic Copper Pot Stills, crafted by Forsyths in Scotland. Made of copper, the pot stills help Aberfeldy craft a fruity, classic highland style of whisky.

Aberfeldy uses the finest oak cask to mature its products to reach an excellent level of whisky maturity. The whisky lies slumbering in a blanket of oak until it is deemed ready by the Malt Master, Stephanie Macleod. The longer the fermentation process takes in the specific oak cask barrels, makes the Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch Whisky full of honeyed richness. All Aberfeldy whiskies proudly carry age statements, meaning that whisky connoisseurs would know how long their products have been waiting for that first sip.

Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch Whisky can be enjoyed in a neat serve, on the rocks, or to be used as a cocktail base.

Aberfeldy 12-Year-Old

Mellowed for 12 Years in handmade oak casks, this smooth, sweet dram offers rich rewards for those who like to dig deeper. This is a whisky that is one step beyond the conventional, mainstream offerings and a more attractive choice than the classic malts commonly available.

Tasting Note:
Scents of spices and honeyed plump fruits. Syrupy, with lots of vanilla and fudge and just a whisper of smoke on the finish.

Aberfeldy 16-Year-Old

Laid to rest for 16 years in handmade oak casks, this enriched offering is finished in first fill Oloroso sherry casks to impart a subtle fruitful naturity and a roundness to the whisky.

Tasting Notes:
Exhaling honey, citrus and spicy cloves. Sherried and full like fruitcake, then dabs of rich dark chocolate and a soft, mouth-coating finish.

Aberfeldy 21-Year-Old

This richly textured dram is matured in a combination of ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon oak casks for 21 years. Over two decades of resting in oak have added an overall richness; wood exerts its influence but doesn’t overwhelm it.

Tasting Notes:
Abounding in heather honey, creamy macadamia nuts and chewy beeswax. Plush with dried fruits, toasted coconut, silky oak, and a bit trace of smoke.
