To celebrate The Langham’s 160th anniversary, The Langham Jakarta has introduced two special items that reflect the hotel’s British heritage while embracing new ideas. A reimagined Battenberg cake and a signature cocktail named the Langham Royale Punch will be available through the end of June 2025. Located in the Sudirman Central Business District, ALICE is The Langham’s main venue for afternoon tea and French bistro fare. As part of the anniversary offerings, ALICE becomes the setting for a seasonal menu that highlights the new Battenberg cakes, a dessert with roots dating back to the 19th century.
The Battenberg cake was first made in 1884 to mark the royal wedding of Princess Victoria and Prince Louis of Battenberg. In this modern version, The Langham Jakarta presents two styles of the cake. The first—called the Langham Signature—includes vanilla and rose pound cake with raspberry confit and vanilla ganache. The second, inspired by Black Forest cake, features chocolate and vanilla layers with cherry confit and kirsch ganache, all wrapped in a dark chocolate coating. You can find the Battenberg cakes featured as part of afternoon tea at ALICE, presented as a welcome treat for those staying in select suites, or available for takeaway in specially designed gift boxes.
Alongside the cakes, The Langham introduces the Langham Royale Punch—an anniversary cocktail drawing from the Victorian tradition of shared punches served at social gatherings. The drink combines gin, hibiscus cordial, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and Champagne, garnished with citrus and edible flowers. It will be served throughout June at several venues across the hotel: Tom’s, ALICE, and Artesian. These limited-time offerings are part of a global celebration recognizing The Langham’s place in hotel history. Founded in London in 1865, The Langham is often credited as the world’s first “Grand Hotel,” known for formal afternoon tea and luxurious service. Through its Jakarta location, the anniversary blends heritage with contemporary interpretations, giving guests a look back through updated flavors and classic presentations.
