To mark Indonesia’s Independence Day, The Coach Restaurant is sharing a special food and drink experience inspired by the country’s culture and flavors. The seasonal offering includes a new menu called “Chef’s Local Favorites”, created by Executive Chef Gabriel Jamias. His goal is to highlight well-known Indonesian ingredients and cooking styles while adding a modern touch to each dish.
“Our goal was to highlight the essence of Indonesian flavors in a way that feels familiar but also new,” says Chef Gabriel. “Each dish reflects our respect for local traditions, reimagined through a modern and global perspective.”
The limited-time menu blends traditional taste with fresh ideas. One of the dishes is the Nusantara Strip Steak, which mixes classic steak with a compound butter made from kecombrang and a sauce inspired by sate maranggi, a flavorful beef skewer dish known for its bold seasoning. Another highlight is the Balinese Tuna Tartare. It uses locally sourced tuna and brings in island flavors with Sambal Matah, a type of raw chili relish, combined with coconut foam and soybean crisps. For dessert, there’s Asinan Cremolata, a cool and tangy treat made from different pineapple textures, spicy granita, and sour mango.
Alongside the food, The Coach Restaurant is offering a series of drinks made in partnership with two unique brands. One is Iwak Arumery, a Balinese producer of arak, a traditional alcoholic beverage. The other is Nespresso, known for its rich coffee blends. The cocktails using arak have deep, tropical flavors and creative ingredients like mangosteen, chocolate, spices, lime, and sarsaparilla. They are Jakarta Sour, Nusantara Islands, and Java’s Free Spirit, each one reflecting a playful mix of local spirit and global style.
The coffee-based drinks are designed for guests who prefer non-alcoholic options. Urban Nagasari and Putri Noong Cream Latte, they’re made with Indonesian coffee and highlight flavors from local ingredients such as banana, pandan leaves, and floral notes inspired by Sundanese traditions. The textures are thick and velvety, and the coffee’s taste includes hints of wood, spice, and roasted grains.
The Coach Restaurant’s Independence Day celebration offers guests a chance to explore local traditions through food and drink. From bold meals to thoughtful beverages, every item on the menu is made to honor Indonesian heritage in a fresh, respectful, and creative way. This special offering will be available throughout August.
