Lady Bee, located in Lima’s vibrant Barranco district, has been awarded the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award 2025, becoming the first Peruvian bar to receive the accolade. The award is one of two special recognitions announced ahead of the live ceremony for The World’s 50 Best Bars 2025, which will take place in Hong Kong on 8 October.
Voted on by more than 800 anonymous members of The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award honors the bar that delivers the most outstanding hospitality experience over the past 18 months.
Founded in 2021 by bartenders Alejandra León and Alonso Palomino, together with chef Gabriela León, Lady Bee was created to elevate Lima’s cocktail culture to the same level of acclaim as its dining scene. The team draws ingredients from across Peru — the Amazon, the Andes, and the Pacific — working closely with producers and communities to create a cocktail menu rooted in sustainability, storytelling, and a zero-waste philosophy.
Hospitality is central to the bar’s ethos. Beyond the inventive cocktails and food, Lady Bee has earned a reputation for its warm and knowledgeable staff, who share the bar’s passion for celebrating Peruvian ingredients and ecosystems. Guests are welcomed not only as patrons but as part of the Lady Bee family, immersed in an atmosphere that emphasizes both connection and cultural pride.
The bar’s design reflects this vision. With honeybee motifs woven through glassware, garnishes, and décor, the space balances elegance with symbolism. Locally crafted furnishings, sustainable materials, and intimate lighting create an environment where craftsmanship and culture come together.
Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Bars, noted Lady Bee’s rapid rise on the global stage: “In just a short time, Lady Bee has carved out a reputation as one of the world’s most beloved bars, being named Campari One To Watch on its debut at No.52 in 2023 and rising to No.16 in 2024. Alongside their exceptional drinks offering, Alonso and Gabriela have created an effortlessly warm space where all are welcome to discover the wonders of Peruvian culture and ingredients.”
For the founders, the recognition is deeply personal. “Pollination, our latest cocktail menu, represents a journey of the bee through the Amazonian, Andean, and Coastal forests — just as we have in our own exploration of identity,” they said in a joint statement. “It is important to tell stories about our diversity, geography, and ecosystems, and we strive to celebrate the people behind every ingredient. Receiving the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award is a recognition not just for us, but for the entire team and community that has supported us.”
Matt Magliocco, Executive Vice President for Michter’s Distillery, added: “Congratulations to Alonso Palomino, Gabriela León, Alejandra León and the entire team at Lady Bee. This award is a testament to how highly their peers value their welcoming atmosphere and Peruvian ingredient-based creative approach.”
Lady Bee’s recognition highlights the bar’s dedication to blending Peruvian heritage with contemporary cocktail culture — and reaffirms Lima’s growing place on the global map of world-class hospitality.
