Indian cuisine continues to expand its presence across Bali’s dining landscape, with hotels increasingly introducing region-specific concepts to reflect evolving visitor demographics. In Jimbaran, InterContinental Bali Resort has partnered with The Chowk to launch The Chowk at Taman Gita, a dedicated Indian gourmet restaurant located within the resort’s Taman Gita dining space.
The concept draws inspiration from the Hindi word “Chowk,” referring to a crossroads or gathering square, reflecting the communal spirit traditionally associated with Indian markets and food culture. The menu presents a broad survey of India’s culinary regions, combining North and South Indian specialties with Indo-Chinese favourites and classic street food preparations.
Guests can expect slow-cooked gravies, hand-rolled breads, chaat selections, and a range of traditional sweets prepared by a dedicated mithai chef. The kitchen is led by Chef Dhoom Singh, who brings over 25 years of experience in Indian cuisine. He is supported by Chef Suresh, specialising in chaat and desserts, alongside chefs Himanshu, Vijendra, Sanjay, Chef Avtar and Chef Mahesh.
The restaurant accommodates up to 220 guests, offering indoor seating as well as a semi-outdoor area overlooking the pond. The setting blends Indian decorative elements with the resort’s Balinese design language, positioning the venue for both casual dining and private celebrations.
“The Chowk at Taman Gita further strengthens our culinary portfolio, reflecting the growing Indian visitor market to Bali and our commitment to anticipating evolving guest preferences. With this addition, our resort now features six distinctive dining venues, welcoming both in-house guests and local diners,” said Bruno Cristol, General Manager of InterContinental Bali Resort.
“We are honoured to collaborate with the iconic InterContinental Bali Resort to further elevate The Chowk brand,” said Pooja Bhatnagar, Founder of The Chowk. “Building upon our presence in Sanur and Ubud, this opening introduces a refined and immersive Indian dining experience to Jimbaran.”
Looking ahead, the restaurant plans to introduce additional programming, including takeaway offerings, an Indian Saturday brunch, private dining experiences and catering services for weddings and events.
The Chowk at Taman Gita is open daily from 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM and is accessible to both resort guests and the wider public.
