The Chinese Restaurant Awards will host a one-night collaborative dinner in Hong Kong this April, bringing together Rising Star Chef Award recipients from Asia and Canada under its New Wave Discovery series. The event will take place on 9 April 2026 at Man Ho Chinese Restaurant, located within the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong.

The dinner marks the Awards’ first official live showcase in Asia following its regional expansion and will feature three chefs: Jayson Tang of Man Ho Chinese Restaurant in Hong Kong, Andersen Lee of Montreal’s Oncle Lee & Oncle Lee Kǎo, and Steven Che of Vancouver’s upcoming Haisan restaurant.

Curated as part of the New Wave Discovery series, the collaboration aims to spotlight chefs shaping contemporary Chinese cuisine across different regions.

“New Wave Discovery is about recognising chefs who are not only technically accomplished, but culturally influential,” explains Rae KunG, CEO of Chinese Restaurant Awards. “By bringing Rising Star Chef awardees from Asia and Canada together in Hong Kong, we are creating a platform where heritage meets movement. We want to show how Chinese cuisine continues to evolve globally through dialogue and a new generation of chefs shaping what comes next.”

A Cross-Regional Tasting Menu

The evening will feature a collaborative multi-course menu, with each chef presenting signature dishes that reflect their individual culinary backgrounds. The tasting is designed to combine Hong Kong ingredients and Lee Kum Kee sauces with Canadian seafood and regional influences from Macau, Vancouver, and Montreal.

Chef Jayson Tang, Executive Chinese Chef at Man Ho Chinese Restaurant and Rising Star Chef Awardee 2025 (Asia), is known for refining Cantonese classics with restraint and precision. Raised in Hong Kong and trained under leading masters including Paul Lau of two-Michelin-starred Tin Lung Heen, Tang became one of the youngest executive Chinese chefs of a five-star hotel in the city.

Chef Andersen Lee, Rising Star Chef Awardee 2025 (Canada), brings a Montreal perspective shaped by French fine-dining training and international stages at Odette, Core by Clare Smyth, and Quintonil. His work at Oncle Lee and Oncle Lee Kǎo reflects a personal interpretation of Chinese cuisine rooted in identity rather than fusion.

Chef Steven Che, Rising Star Chef Awardee 2024 (Canada), is a Macau-born chef based in Vancouver. Known for narrative-driven dishes that reinterpret Chinese heritage, his cooking spans from Dungeness crab congee to sourdough scallion pancakes, blending memory with modern technique.

Together, the chefs will present a menu that reflects the Awards’ focus on identifying where Chinese cuisine is heading next, positioning the dinner as both a showcase and a dialogue across continents.
