Waldorf Astoria Osaka has officially opened Canes and Tales, a new destination cocktail bar located on the 28th floor of the hotel. Designed to evoke the atmosphere of 1930s Manhattan and the Golden Age of Jazz, the intimate bar introduces a concept centered on storytelling, classic elegance, and elevated cocktail experiences.
With only 47 seats, Canes and Tales is accessed through a dimly lit hallway marked by a symbolic gold ampersand. The bar’s interiors and discreet entrance pay homage to the speakeasy-style bars of New York, drawing on the Waldorf Astoria brand’s historic ties to the city.
At the heart of the bar is a uniquely shaped central counter designed to spotlight the team’s nightly performances. The drinks program is led by Director of Mixology Dominic Dijkstra, alongside Bar Manager Masahiko Ohama and Bar Supervisor Shimba Ishikawa, who together bring extensive experience in international cocktail development and service.
The debut cocktail menu takes inspiration from Tales of the Jazz Age, a short story collection by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Each of the 11 cocktails corresponds to one of the book’s stories, reinterpreted into interactive and layered drinks. One highlight includes The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in which guests select the “age” of their whisky — with options ranging from non-alcoholic to Glenfarclas 25 Year Old — blended with fig-infused sherry, vermouth, Bénédictine, and bitters.
Food offerings complement the drinks by blending Japanese ingredients with reimagined New York-style dishes. Highlights include:
Coney Island Hot Dog with house-made condiments
Reuben Sliders
Bourbon Glazed Fried Chicken with potatoes and gravy
Charcuterie & Cheese paired with Osaka-made “Iseya” pickles
Japanese Oysters, offered three ways: Natural, Rockefeller, or Kilpatrick
Private Label Caviar Menu, featuring Kaluga or Ossetra with traditional or modern pairings
Desserts, such as NY Cheesecake and the house specialty S’mores Our Way
Canes and Tales operates on a walk-in basis. Opening hours are Wednesday to Thursday from 5 PM to 12 AM, Friday and Saturday until 1 AM, and Sunday until 12 AM. Guests may contact the hotel to check availability.
The launch marks Waldorf Astoria Osaka’s expansion into high-concept hospitality spaces, merging historical references with a localized and contemporary interpretation of global bar culture.
