The St. Regis Jakarta is marking Indonesia’s Independence Month with the launch of Kanvas Rasa: Indonesia in Ink & Sugar, a limited-time afternoon tea created in collaboration with Indonesian contemporary artist Eddy Susanto. Available throughout August, the experience combines Indonesian art, literature, and culinary traditions through a collection of sweet and savory creations.
Served at The Drawing Room from 1 to 31 August 2026, the afternoon tea is inspired by Sembilan Mata Hari Centhini, Eddy Susanto’s artistic interpretation of Serat Centhini, one of Java’s best-known literary works. The classic manuscript chronicles generations of knowledge encompassing philosophy, rituals, arts, and culinary traditions, providing the foundation for the menu’s storytelling approach.
The culinary experience is created by Executive Pastry Chef Kevin Lee, who translates the themes of the literary masterpiece into a selection of contemporary pastries and savory bites inspired by Indonesian flavors. Designed as edible interpretations of the archipelago’s cultural heritage, each item reflects the stories and traditions explored in Eddy Susanto’s artwork.
The collaboration also highlights Eddy Susanto’s longstanding relationship with The St. Regis Jakarta. The artist is behind the mural at The St. Regis Bar Jakarta, where he combines Javanese wayang traditions with the history of jazz in Indonesia through his distinctive visual style. His work has been exhibited at the Singapore Biennale, the National Gallery of Indonesia, and the Giudecca Art District during the 59th Venice Biennale. In 2025, he also received the UOB Painting of the Year award in the Established Artist category.
Presented exclusively for Indonesia’s Independence Month, Kanvas Rasa: Indonesia in Ink & Sugar offers guests the opportunity to experience Indonesian heritage through an afternoon tea that brings together contemporary art, literature, and pastry craftsmanship in a single dining experience.
