The Starbucks Barista Championship 2026 in Jakarta highlighted the growing strength of Indonesia’s coffee community. Over three days and held at Lippo Mall Kemang Jakarta, the event brought together finalists from across the country, each showing their skill in espresso preparation, latte art, and signature drinks, while also reflecting on how their work connects to sustainability.
Kadek Seina Maputra from Starbucks Reserve Dewata Bali took first place after a close final round. His performance combined technical precision with a clear focus on sustainable practices, aligning with the competition’s theme: “Your Cup of Passion: Ensuring a Sustainable Future of Coffee for All.” Seina will represent Indonesia at the Asia Pacific regional championship in Manila later this year.
The competition also recognized two other standout baristas. Geralda Rosari from Starbucks Reserve Pakuwon Mall Yogyakarta earned second place, impressing judges with her creativity and consistency. Nabilla Yahya from Starbucks Reserve Galaxy Mall 3 Surabaya secured third place, noted for her strong presentation and attention to detail. Together, the three finalists reflected the diversity of talent across Indonesia’s coffee scene.
The path to the final began with more than 500 baristas competing in local and regional rounds. Nine advanced to the national stage, where the top three were selected for the grand final. Judges emphasized not only technical ability but also how baristas connect their craft to the future of coffee—ensuring it remains ethically sourced and resilient for farmers and communities.
Alongside the competition, the program included masterclasses, public talks, and a Latte Art Throwdown open to visitors. The atmosphere was lively and educational, giving audiences a closer look at the skills behind every cup. Winners received trophies, equipment, and training opportunities to prepare them for the next stage.
Seina’s victory, along with Nabilla’s and Geralda’s achievements, shows how Indonesia’s baristas are shaping the country’s coffee culture. Their performances highlight a balance of skill, creativity, and responsibility that will carry forward as Indonesia takes its place on the regional stage.
