As the weather begins to cool, Little Bao Hong Kong is introducing a new seasonal menu that brings together comfort and coastal flavors. Available for a limited time at both their Soho and Causeway Bay locations, the menu features four dishes that reflect the warmth of traditional Asian street food while drawing inspiration from the sea. Each dish is designed to be shared, making it ideal for cozy gatherings as the evenings grow cooler.
The highlight of the menu is Tempura Grouper Bao. They use giant grouper and coated it in a light nori tempura batter and fried until crisp, while the inside remains soft and juicy. It’s paired with a mild wasabi mayonnaise and a tangy slaw that adds freshness and crunch. This dish is more than just tasty—it’s part of a larger story. Created in collaboration with Chef May Chow and sustainability advocate Carla Martinesi from CHOMP, the grouper bao is linked to a project called “Neighbourhood Recipe of Ocean Memories”. The team gathered stories from Aberdeen’s fish markets and traditional eateries, turning it as a dish that celebrates tradition while promoting sustainable seafood.
Another new item is a dish of fries inspired by laksa, a spicy noodle soup popular in Southeast Asia, Laksa Fries. The fries are topped with slices of fish cake, tiny sakura shrimp, and a creamy coconut-based sauce. A laksa-flavored mayonnaise brings everything together, adding heat and depth. The result is a playful take on comfort food that nods to the flavors of Singapore’s hawker stalls.
For something lighter, the Roasted Baby Corn offers a smoky and satisfying side. The corn is grilled until tender and served over a smooth corn puree with a touch of chive yogurt. A drizzle of cilantro oil and a sprinkle of salted egg yolk add richness and texture, making this vegetable dish feel complete and well-balanced.
To end the meal, Little Bao offers Pistachio Ice Cream Bao; a scoop of pistachio ice cream is tucked inside a warm, deep-fried bao bun. It’s layered with black sesame praline and bits of candied lemon, creating a mix of creamy, nutty, and citrusy flavors. This final dish blends Eastern and Western elements in a way that’s both simple and satisfying.
Little Bao’s new menu is a thoughtful response to the changing season, offering dishes that are rich in flavor and rooted in cultural stories. Whether you’re drawn to the bold grouper bao or the comforting laksa fries, each plate invites diners to explore the connection between food, memory, and the sea.
