In Jakarta’s ever-evolving dining scene, 71st Omakase has earned a reputation as one of the city’s most intriguing hidden gems. Known for transforming dinner into a multi-sensory journey where food, art, and storytelling intersect, the restaurant now presents Zodiac 2.0—a reimagined continuation of its zodiac-inspired concept.
At the core of 71st Omakase is a tasting menu built around seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, many harvested directly from the restaurant’s own garden. This farm-to-table ethos highlights the richness of Indonesian produce while applying modern culinary techniques that elevate each ingredient into an immersive narrative.
The experience unfolds in intimate sessions, seating only 32 guests in a minimalist dining space with an open kitchen and chef’s counter. Each course is prepared and plated in front of the guests, turning dinner into a carefully choreographed performance that engages all five senses.
Zodiac 2.0: A Theatrical Exploration of Flavor
For 2025, the theme continues with Zodiac 2.0, offering diners an expanded journey through immersive zodiac-inspired rooms. Each space connects symbolism with flavor: the Capricorn Room invites guests to unlock a blooming flower to reveal a hidden dish; the Libra Room challenges them to balance a scale to unveil a diorama concealing the next course; and the Leo Room integrates fire as a dramatic element of presentation.
Chef-Owner Fariz Setyadarma Priady explains, “Zodiac 2.0 is a continuation of the journey. It offers guests a more memorable, layered experience that draws them deeper into the symbolism and mystery of the zodiac signs.”
From Queens to Jakarta: The Chef’s Journey
The creative mind behind the restaurant, Fariz Setyadarma Priady, took an unconventional path to fine dining. A former banker in New York, he began his culinary journey as a dishwasher before training at notable establishments such as Sushi Nakazawa, under Daisuke Nakazawa, a protégé of sushi master Jiro Ono.
The name “71st” itself is a tribute to 71st Avenue in Queens, New York, where Fariz once lived. “The idea for 71st Omakase was born on 71st Avenue,” he says. “It became a symbol of humble beginnings and relentless determination.”
Sustainable Storytelling Through Design
The zodiac journey is complemented by design work from Nabil Alamudi of Design Studio N/A (DSNA). Each room has been crafted entirely from recycled materials sourced from the restaurant’s waste, from plastic bottles to cardboard and cans, transformed into intricate installations. This sustainability-first approach ensures that the storytelling extends from the plate to the physical environment.
An Invitation to Discover
What began as a three-month experiment has become a defining feature of Jakarta’s dining landscape. With Zodiac 2.0, the journey grows deeper, offering refined storytelling, interactive design, and pairings with curated wine selections.
Dining at 71st Omakase is not merely about food—it is an encounter with narrative, creativity, and connection, ensuring that each visit reveals something
