Indonesia’s adoration toward coffee has made the coffee scene in Jakarta more diverse and captivating. With the growing enthusiasm and awareness of a dairy-free lifestyle, there are still few coffee shops that embrace and provide affordable milk alternatives to accommodate people with lactose intolerance, a common issue in the Asian community.
With an aim to serve affordable, delicious, and high-quality coffee beverages using 100% plant-based milk alternatives with 100% arabica beans, Mad For Coffee is the first fully plant-based coffee shop in South Jakarta located inside Mad Grass Collaborative Space and Cloud Kitchens.
Providing several renowned plant-based milk brands such as Oatly, a Swedish food tech company that produces alternatives to dairy products from oat, Mad For Coffee uses a blend of beans from three different origins, Toraja, Aceh, and West Java. The result is a perfect combination of light, sweet, and nutty taste with a hint of cloves and dark cocoa that you can taste through the signature Oatly Latte. For those who enjoy sweeter and creamier beverages, Mad For Coffee has Madly’s signature blend milk, a premium non-GMO soy milk mixture, and Oatly Barista Edition.
“It took around 6 months to create our lattes. We’ve tried several beans and almost all kinds of plant-based milk that are available in the market to find the perfect blend of coffee and plant-based milk,” states Chandra Revo, CEO, and co-founder of Mad For Coffee. Revo continued, “We hope Mad for Coffee becomes a pioneer of plant-based coffee shops in Indonesia and acknowledged by the people. With our affordable price, we wish people would consider switching to plant-based coffee options because not only is it as tasty compared to dairy options, but it is also healthier and more sustainable.”
Also bringing the fast-fashion issue to the forefront, Mad For Coffee held a two-day thrift shop market called Pesta Tangan Kedua during its grand opening. Encouraging people into reusing, repairing, and thrifting items that are no longer used for the sake of the environment, this creative marketplace was held from Saturday 9th until Sunday 10th October 2021. There were also special performances and activities such as a sustainable fashion show with ESMOD, charity-loved influencer items, live vinyl music, tarot readings, and magic performances.
