In the past few months, gastronomy aficionados in Jakarta have been intrigued with the opening of Indonesia’s first ever dining in the sky. Dubbed Lounge in The Sky Indonesia, abbreviated as LITS, the culinary program is the third in the world after Belgium and Malaysia.
This month, Foodies had a chance to try the thrilling experience that promises an unforgettable culinary moment with a panoramic view of Jakarta’s skyline around the Semanggi interchange.
The dinner started with guests welcomed by friendly staff into the lounge area. The lounge area is completed with a bar where guests can order aperitif, be it cocktails or mocktails (depends on which dinner package the guest chose). After a short waiting moment, guests are then escorted to the crane where the magic happens.
LITS promotes high safety standards. Guests will use seat belts and the accompanying staff are equipped with safety harnesses to ensure their safety 50 meters up in the air. Before the platform is raised, safety supervisors will brief guests on safety regulations. And to ensure that the crane is safe, LITS’ safety standards have been approved by TÜV SÜD, an international organization from Germany that validates safety and security levels.
The food presented in the air is pre-cooked meals. There is a simple kitchen on the crane for the onboard chefs to prepare and reheat the meals before being served to the guests. The set menus consist of various Western delicacies, such as Caesar Salad with Balinese Chicken, Comte Barramundi, Miso Butter Beef, Lamb Cutlet with rice, and more. The dishes that you get will depend on the dinner package you purchase.
There are three packages that guests can choose, which are Standard, Business Class, and First Class. The Standard Package package is priced at IDR1.600.000 nett per person, which includes a four-course dinner and a free flow of drinking water. The Business Class is offered at the price of IDR2.200.000 nett per person which includes a five-course dinner, two complimentary beverages upon arrival, priority boarding, and free flow drinking water. The First Class Package, being the top package, consists of a five-course dinner, free flow beverages upon arrival, priority boarding (first to board), one special takeaway gift, and a one-night stay in Deluxe Room inclusive breakfast for two pax art ARTOTEL Suites Mangkuluhur (formerly Crowne Plaza Jakarta) and it will set you back IDR3.700.000 million nett per person.
Guest who wants to join the dinner are asked to make reservations in advance. Online reservations are available starting from noon on the LITS’ website. LITS are available in two sessions from Monday to Friday and three sessions during weekends. Time choices are 5:30-6:30 pm, 7-8 pm, and lastly, 8:30-9:30 pm.
To experience dinner in the sky, LITS applies safety and security standards, including a minimum age of 17 years old, a minimum height of 135 cm, and a maximum weight of 150 kilograms.
It’s not an easy task to combine a thrilling experience with an exceptional dining moment. Sure, there is a bit of issue with consistency in the food preparation where the meat or the chicken was a bit dry. But in our standard, LITS can pull off the task. The food provided by Boca Rica Restaurant and Bar was not disappointing, especially the lamb cutlet and the White Chocolate Mango Lava as dessert. If you don’t mind the air pollution, then LITS is a must-try experience.
