August is historical and one of the most important months in Indonesia. On August 17th, the anniversary of Indonesia’s independence day, children and adults are filled with joy and celebration, with many parties and games.
More than seven decades have passed, yet the celebration continues to honor the heroes that have made Indonesia today. Several hotels and restaurants offer a special promotion to keep the party and the joyous occasion full of delight. From special workshops, and collaborations, to selections of culinary journeys, we have curated several places that you can go to celebrate Indonesia’s independence day to the fullest.
Meatsmith
Meatsmith collaborates with renowned food storyteller Ade Putri Paramadita to create a tantalizing Indonesian-inspired menu. Available throughout August, the menu features many local delicacies Ade Putri has scouted during her culinary trips around the archipelago.
In collaboration with Meatsmith’s very own Chef Aga Alvian, they chose five traditional dishes and prepared them using local ingredients and modern techniques. Some of the special menus available include Woku Fried Chicken Burger (Manado), Rendang Beef Cheek Pie (West Sumatra), Short Ribs Pamarrasan (Toraja), and Arsik Brisket Spring Rolls (North Sumatra).
Signature Restaurant at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta
Get the experience of exploring the culinary specialties of the archipelago. During August, Signatures Restaurant will present food from various provinces in Indonesia, including Se’i beef from NTT, Chicken pa’piong typical Toraja to Nasi Gandul typical Pati, ready to pamper your taste buds. Not only that, other unique culinary delights come from Paulaner Brauhaus, namely Paulaner Rijsttafel, where guests can enjoy special German and Indonesian dishes such as Pork Knuckle Betutu, Deep Fried Duck, rendang sausage, served with Sayur Ebatan, white and brown rice, sambal matah, and sambal eggplant. In addition to food, during August, they also provide special Beer Pletok, which can be enjoyed at all their F&B outlets.
The Dharmawangsa Jakarta
The Dharmawangsa Jakarta, in partnership with Javara Indonesia, presents Jelajah Rempah Nusantara. This three-day event explores various sensory experiences in understanding the role of spices in culinary culture and wellness. From 19th to 21st August 2022, in the distinctive settings of The Dharmawangsa Jakarta, Jelajah Rempah Nusantara will include a range of innovative programs, from thematic workshops to ancient wellness practices and locally inspired culinary offerings to film screenings and a curated weekend market. The event features an exclusive Borobudur Heritage Dinner: From Relief to Table, where history and gastronomy intertwine to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience, as one of the main highlights.
Breeze at The Samaya Seminyak
On 17th August 2022, Breeze at The Samaya Seminyak is taking part in celebrating Indonesia’s Independence Day with a culinary journey across the Island of the Gods. Indulge in the signature all-you-can-eat buffet of authentic Balinese recipes, from suckling pig, crispy duck (one of Breeze’s signature dishes), Lawar Kacang, Laklak, Garang Asam, Balinese mixed grill: Sate Lilit, Chicken Satay, squid, and prawn with Balinese herbs and many more. Enjoy the scrumptious foods while being entertained by a live DJ from 5-7 PM, traditional Balinese dance from 7-8 PM, followed by live gamelan and Jegog from 8 PM onwards.
