Tucked inside the lower level of Ratu Plaza, a new dining spot has quietly opened its doors. Side Room now occupies what was once an old steakhouse, offering a menu that leans into comfort food with a twist. The space feels both new and familiar—dimly lit, layered with detail, and shaped by a mix of influences. There are nods to American diners, flickers of retro neon, and the kind of quiet corners you might find in the backstreets of a big Asian city.

While the design plays with memory and mood, the focus remains on creating a place where people can gather—whether for a midday bite, a slow dinner, or something later into the night. With its location in South Jakarta and easy access to public transport, Side Room adds a new rhythm to a mall that’s slowly finding its way back into the city’s everyday map.

Side Room’s menu is rooted in comfort food but shaped by a mix of Asian and Western influences, resulting in dishes that feel familiar yet distinct. Each plate is designed with a sense of balance—rich flavors, thoughtful textures, and a clear point of view.

One of the standout mains is the Short Ribs with Korean Sauce that are tender and glazed with a Korean-style sauce. Another signature is the Burnt Butter Miso Bucatini, the pasta is coated in a sauce that’s both nutty and umami-rich, with the miso adding depth and the browned butter bringing a toasty aroma. It’s a dish that feels indulgent without being heavy. Seafood appears in the form of Grilled Octopus, served with an Asian-style harissa. The octopus is charred just enough to give it a smoky edge, while the harissa adds a bright, spicy kick that cuts through the richness. It’s plated simply, letting the ingredients speak for themselves.

Desserts continue the theme of blending traditions. The Black Sesame Profiteroles are filled with a creamy, nutty custard that contrasts with the crisp pastry shell. The Thai Tea Tiramisu swaps out coffee for the familiar flavor of Thai milk tea, giving the classic Italian dessert a new identity—less bitter, more floral, and softly spiced.  And on weekends, the brunch menu introduces a few playful takes on local and international favorites like Bubur Brisket which is a comforting rice porridge and the Deep-Fried French toast that is crisp on the outside and soft in the middle.

The food at Side Room doesn’t try to impress with complexity. Instead, it leans into warmth and memory, using familiar ingredients in ways that feel both grounded and gently surprising.
