Since entering Indonesia 20 years ago, Starbucks has always strived to be a company with partners (employees), customers, and coffee at the core, building human connections by creating a culture of warmth and belonging. In this third place, everyone is welcomed.

Starbucks aspires to create a positive impact in the communities it serves by investing in humanity and the well-being of everyone the brand connects with, from partners to coffee farmers to the customers in the stores and beyond. From opening its first store at Plaza Indonesia in 2002, Starbucks has grown to more than 4000 partners in more than 480 stores in 36 cities, bringing the Starbucks experience to customers across Indonesia. To celebrate its 20-year journey in
Indonesia, PT Sari Coffee Indonesia (SCI), the official licensee of the Starbucks brand in Indonesia, will kick off the celebrations with an initiative to support the farming community in Indonesia and a series of anniversary promotions and offerings in May for customers.

“As we mark the 20th anniversary of Starbucks in Indonesia, I am proud of the remarkable achievements we have accomplished together with our partners and customers in pursuing our commitment to our three core pillars – People, Planet, Coffee. We want to dedicate this milestone to our partners and customers who have been with us, as we aspire to be a people and planet positive company,” said Anthony McEvoy, the leader of PT Sari CoffeeIndonesia (SCI).

“And as a company, Starbucks aims to touch 1 billion people by 2030, and in Indonesia, we invest and support youth empowerment and our partners and coffee farmers as our core. In 2021 Starbucks Creative Youth Entrepreneurship Program (SCYEP) has touched 1250 students, and we will continue this program with support from Starbucks Foundation,” he added. “I look forward to the future of Starbucks in Indonesia as we continue to create new connections and positive impact for our customers and community in Indonesia.”

In 2019, Indonesia celebrated opening the one-of-a-kind Starbucks Dewata Coffee Sanctuary in Bali, bringing customers through the seed-to-cup coffee experience. Furthermore, through the Greener Nusantara initiative, Starbucks has launched multiple programs in support of reducing waste across Indonesia, such as eliminating over 30 million straws through the introduction of the strawless lid in 2020, completely transitioning to cold cups made with rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) in 2021 and the monthly Bring Your Own Tumbler program in all stores across Indonesia.

Another critical recycling program is the ‘Grounds for Your Garden’ program, which provides customers in Indonesia with complimentary bags of soil-enriching recycled coffee grounds from Starbucks. Starbucks is also piloting some greener programs in reducing waste at store levels, including a waste management program in Surabaya and building the first store with solar panels to provide renewable energy at Starbucks Drive-Thru Cipondoh Tangerang to reduce electricity consumption.

As part of its ongoing commitment to creating a positive impact in the communities it serves, Starbucks actively participates in activities that uplift the community in Indonesia. The first Community Store in the Tanah Abang neighborhood of Jakarta opened in 2020 in support of creating educational opportunities for youth in Tanah Abang. The SCYEP was designed to promote more options and better prepare youths for the future to support youth empowerment further. And in appreciation of frontline responders of the Covid-19 outbreak, over 50,000 cups of beverages have been donated to hospitals and vaccination centers since March 2020.

To mark this important milestone in Indonesia, Starbucks reaffirms its long-term commitment to the Indonesian coffee community by donating 40,000 coffee seeds to coffee farmers in Sumatra to support the future of coffee, which will take place on October 1st in the commemoration of World Coffee Day this year. Previously since 2017, 500,000 coffee seeds have been donated to coffee farmers through the Art in the Cup program in collaboration with the Farmers Support Center in Berastagi, North Sumatra, and Starbucks is committed to continuing to make positive impacts in the farming community in Indonesia.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary, Starbucks also launched exclusive limited edition products from 9-20 May 2022, featuring a Birthday Cake Frappuccino® beverages, with two irresistible variants – White Chocolate and Tiramisu that has festive Twinkle Toppings on top. To add to the celebrations, on May 17th, the 20th-anniversary of Starbucks in Indonesia, exclusively designed eco-bags will be gifted to customers for every purchase of two Grande / Venti beverages, encouraging them to reduce the use of the single-use bag.

Starbucks will also launch a collectible Siren Wave-themed 20th Anniversary tumbler with an exclusive design, available since May 9th at all stores nationwide. As a special thanks to all Starbucks Rewards members, a Double Stars Day will be launched from 17-20 May 2022 to celebrate and appreciate more than 2 million Starbucks Rewards members in Indonesia. Adding to the excitement, there will also be 20 giant cup installations across 20 Starbucks stores to invite
customers to enjoy the excitement and celebrate together in Indonesia.
