As one of the four top traditional Chinese festivals, two traditional highlights of this festival are dragon boat racing and the eating of Rice Dumplings. This year, the festival falls on 3 June 2022. Many people believe that the Dragon Boat Festival originated in ancient China when Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet and exiled official during the Warring States, drowned himself in the Miluo River. Every fifth day of the fifth lunar month, people beat drums and paddle out in dragon-shaped boats on the river, as they once did in an attempt to save him, and they bring along Rice Dumplings to keep fish and evil spirits away from his body. After this, Chinese people commemorated the day by dragon boat racing, eating Rice Dumplings, which is believed to bring good fortune to the family.
Each year, JIA offers signature creations such as the Hongkong Rice Dumpling, considered the favourite Rice Dumpling and which will be back served with Pork Belly, Roasted Duck, Black Mushrooms, Lotus Seeds and Salted Egg Yolk. Other creations include a Five Seasoning Rice Dumpling with Pork Belly, Chestnuts, Mushrooms and Salted Egg Yolk, Nyonya Rice Dumplings with dried Shrimps, Chillies, Mushrooms and Chicken, and a Beef Rendang Rice Dumpling with Beef, Chestnuts, and Green Beans, as well as a stunning fusion of Indonesia’s best recipes and last but not least, specially made for satisfying the sweet cravings, is the Sweetened Purple Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Custard.
