For the third episode of Lazy Susan Experience this month, Lazy Susan, in collaboration with Crafted With Time and Hei Schools Indonesia, held an explorative dining experience titled “Main Bekel,” which translates to playing with your lunch.

The concept of Main Bekel revolves around the experience of pairing flavors for all the 3-course meals – starter, main course, and dessert, which guests can choose from available ingredients to make combinations according to their preference. More than simply combining ingredients, guests were encouraged to learn about food beyond the taste; by experimenting with various methods of pairing ingredients to produce unique and complementary flavors, visuals, textures, aromas, and more.

The event begins with a short taste workshop led by Crafted With Time, followed by the presentation of nine bowls containing starter components and five dressings while following the plating demonstration. Next, the main course and a full component dessert were presented to the guest, which they could individually combine and plate according to their creativity.

In this event, Crafted With Time, a producer of restaurant-grade fermentation products, showcased their products’ versatility by preparing their fermented products into familiar sauces and dressings such as the Flavorsome Kimchi into a Hollandaise sauce, Savory Paste into a Bechamel sauce, and White Time Miso into a creamy mustard salad dressing.

Main Bekel invited guests to nourish their inner child by ‘playing’ with their food. As part of this experience, Lazy Susan collaborates with Hei Schools to create a nostalgic school atmosphere. Upon entering the classroom, visitors are asked to find their named seat. They were also given a form resembling a test paper to choose their protein, sides, and garnishes for the main course. The theme of ‘play’ was also portrayed through various touchpoints, like the drawing-book-style menu booklets, and child-like drawings that are mounted on the walls of a kindergarten classroom setting. Finally, a personalized photo of their plated dish can be taken home as a souvenir with Magic Powder from Crafted With Time.
