Kurune is the new go-to place if you want to enjoy mouthwatering Japanese fusion delicacies.

The ever-growing Senopati area as a dining and lifestyle destination in Jakarta gets even more diverse and busier with the arrival of Kurune. Born from the creative minds behind the famous Japanese restaurant Sumibi in the Gandaria area, Kurune took a different approach from its sister. Headed by Chef Tsuchiya, Kurune offers a wide selection of modern, fusion Japanese delicacies in upscale presentations.

From eclectic appetizers like Caviar Chawanmushi to Charcoal Grill dishes to fresh seafood like oyster and sashimi, Kurune will never bore you with its extensive selection of Japanese fusion dishes.

There are around 120 dishes on the menu, including a seasonal menu that change each month. ‘We want to bring something different and modern to the customers,” said Tsuchiya over lunch with FoodieS team. In creating the menu, Chef Tsuchiya takes inspiration from traditional Japanese food and then infuses it with modern updates.

Indulge yourself with salmon bone marrow, a modern menu with distinctive Japanese flavor; Caesar salad with Japanese onsen egg; steak Robatayaki with fusion sauce; and more. “I like to experiment to create new menus that will be loved by customers,” he explained.

When we asked him about the dishes on the menu that he really enjoyed making, Tsuchiya, without hesitation, gave the answer. “I love making sushi. It requires a lot of patience and top skill to make authentic and delicious sushis,” he said. All the sushi on the menu are his creations offering traditional and contemporary sushi.

Chef Tsuchiya is not shy to stay updated with what’s trending in Japan to keep the restaurant offering something new to the customers. “I picked up the trend and try to bring it here for our customers,” he revealed. Recently, he brought a new dessert, Dorayaki Matcha Mont Blanc, which consists of dorayaki cake topped with udon-shaped matcha ice cream.

Besides a wide selection of Japanese fusion dishes, Kurune also offers a variety of modern eclectic cocktails and an impressive wine collection. When it’s passed dinner time, there is also a DJ performance to light up the night.
