Westin Bali’s Culinary Connection
The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali held a successful collaboration of Indonesian and Dutch cuisine at Ikan Restaurant on 2 – 3 June 2018 between Ben Ungermann, runner-up of MasterChef Australia 2017 with Chef I Putu Gede Gunartha (Chef Gun), the resort’s very own Ikan Chef. This dining collaboration offered a selection of flavorful dishes that married Indonesian and Dutch elements.
On Saturday, 2nd June, Ben and Chef Gunartha hosted a special Afternoon Tea at the resort’s refreshed Lobby Bar & Lounge with media partners and elite members. Guests enjoyed a selection of irresistible sweet and savory treats in a charming outdoor setting in addition to a cooking demonstration conducted by Ben with a fun and interactive engagement with everyone in attendance.
Ben is certainly no stranger to The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali. Late last year he took on a leading role in an exclusive charity dinner at the resort to raise awareness about depression. He impressed diners with his spice-infused dessert and went on to make lots of friends during his stay.
When evening came, the Culinary Connection menu at Ikan Restaurant featured an assortment of superb dishes attracting more than 50 guests. A flavorful three-course menu by Chef Gun with his Balinese roots by using locally sourced ingredients. He served up a flavorful dishes, Rujak Salad Udang Sambal Matah, Lemper Ayam Bakar Sambal Mangga, Kambing Panggang Singkong and Cendol Panna Cotta.
Meanwhile, Ben Ungermann, the popular runner-up of MasterChef Australia 2017 took inspiration from his Dutch/Indonesian heritage. He added an Indonesian twist to favorites like Dutch Potato Salad, Dutch Beef Croquettes, Barramundi on crusted stamppot and Liquorice Allsorts.
