A Fantastic Christmas at LYON

Lyon, The Mandarin Oriental Jakarta’s signature French restaurant, is presenting an exquisite take on some traditional Western Christmas favorites.

The scent of spice was in the air at Lyon, as the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta hosted a sneak peak of the restaurant’s Christmas offerings.

Inside a private dining room was the source: Glühwein was simmering and served to guests as they arrived. An Austrian twist on mulled or spiced wine, Glühwein is a perennial favorite in the West in wintertime, as well as during the holidays.

At Lyon, the wine was heated in a pot and mixed with dried Indonesian spices like cinnamon and star anise.

For Christmas, Lyon will offer a semi-buffet concept, where guests can savor as many dishes as they wish from an a la carte menu, as well as buffet offerings, live several carving stations, a seafood bar, international cheeses, charcuteries and gourmet terrines.

To start the preview dinner was a light winter squash cream soup poured over a pigeon-and-foie-gras tortellini and saffron and gold leaf croutons. What followed were two excellent main dishes that evoked memories of grand meals eaten at the family table during Christmases Past.

First was a home-cured salmon, served with a corn puree, green peas and salmon roe, quail eggs and micro-herbs. Second was an immense, magnificent truffle-roasted turkey, carved dramtically at tableside. White meat and dark meat were perfectly moist and served with all the trimmings to capture the feeling of Christmas in the West: herb-roasted potatoes, glazed chestnuts, carrots, brussel sprouts, cranberry relish and natural jus.

Finishing the evening was a Buche Noire, a 70 percent chocolate mousse, with salted caramel and spice orange creme.

Lyon Christmas dining offers are available on Dec. 24 and 25 for Rp. 630,000++ a person. Meanwhile, Cinnamon, the hotel’s all-day dining venue, will be reimagined with a “White Christmas” theme, with a private chalet area that can seat up to 35 guests. The White Christmas buffet will be available for dinner on Dec. 24 and lunch on Dec. 25 for Rp 398,000.

Festive hampers will available until Dec. 31 with traditional Christmas delights such as Stolen Breads, Candied Fruit Cakes and holiday cookies, while the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta’s Christmas Tree will be illuminated for the first time on Dec. 5.
