A Fantastic Christmas at LYON
The scent of spice was in the air at Lyon, as the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta hosted a sneak peak of the restaurant’s Christmas offerings.
Inside a private dining room was the source: Glühwein was simmering and served to guests as they arrived. An Austrian twist on mulled or spiced wine, Glühwein is a perennial favorite in the West in wintertime, as well as during the holidays.
At Lyon, the wine was heated in a pot and mixed with dried Indonesian spices like cinnamon and star anise.
To start the preview dinner was a light winter squash cream soup poured over a pigeon-and-foie-gras tortellini and saffron and gold leaf croutons. What followed were two excellent main dishes that evoked memories of grand meals eaten at the family table during Christmases Past.
Finishing the evening was a Buche Noire, a 70 percent chocolate mousse, with salted caramel and spice orange creme.
Festive hampers will available until Dec. 31 with traditional Christmas delights such as Stolen Breads, Candied Fruit Cakes and holiday cookies, while the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta’s Christmas Tree will be illuminated for the first time on Dec. 5.
