Monkey Bean Coffee
New caffeine oasis at the center of one of the busiest location in Jakarta, Kuningan.
It was not even lunch time but the Jakarta’s heat is almost unbearable. Luckily my destination that day was a cool place where I can have a glass of fresh coffee while having my brunch, called Monkey Bean Coffee. It’s a new café snuggled inside the ground floor of Plaza Kuningan, South Tower.
Monkey Bean Coffee has a perfect location because it’s surrounded by offices. Decorated with wood and warm colors, it’s like an escape and relaxing spot for many employees, both locals and expatriates. I came across Dilip Aswani, the owner, and he told a story about the unique location where Monkey Bean Coffee is now.
After working for a company for almost 20 years, Dilip he wanted to retire and do some relaxing work. As a real foodie and coffee lover, he always wanted to try F&B business. “Almost at the same time, I’ve got information about a café that is going to closed for good. It’s just a coincidence”, said Dilip. So, he immediately jumped to the opportunity, took over the place, did some thorough observing and researching for the potential guest in a couple of months before he renovated it and started a new café from scratch.
What makes Monkey Bean Coffee unique is that you can find wide varieties of food as your coffee pairing. Where else you can find a café that offer combination of Americano and spicy Chicken Biryani Rice or Samosa? Or, iced coffee latte and a delightful Dori fish with seaweed rice? Those special dish were created to cater Indians and Japanese expats who worked nearby. They also prepare nasi goreng and several kinds of sandwiches, to cover all bases.
Open from 7 am to 7 pm on weekdays, Monkey Bean Coffee specialty is their espresso-based coffee made by experienced barista, but if you want something more refreshing they also have tea and fresh smoothies to cool down your head from the deadline pile up.
Monkey Bean Coffee is a hidden oasis in the center of Kuningan, it’s cool and friendly, just like how Dilip want it to be. “This is something that I always want to do and I hope it become a good first step for more to come,” he said.
