Exclusive Luncheon With Chef Akira Watanabe at AWkitchen PIK Avenue
FoodieS got a chance to enjoy a luncheon by Chef Akira Watanabe at AWkitchen by Akira Watanabe at their newly opened branch at PIK Avenue.
On Sept. 15, Chef Akira Watanabe introduced his menu at Awkitchen offering authentic Italian cuisine with Japanese twist. Originated in Nakameguro, Tokyo, the restaurant boasts dishes made with abundant vegetables and pasta with its famous creation ‘Bagna Cauda’.
In 2014, AWkitchen opened their first international store in Plaza Senayan, Jakarta. Following the success of Pasta House AWkitchen, the third outlet opened its door with a new concept called Pasta Marché AWkitchen by Akira Watanabe.
“We would like to introduce a new concept of eating pasta and pizza. Purposedly to promote a healthy balance meal with Chef Akira, Pasta Marchéemphasize more on healthier choice,” said Lowrenz Tanuwidjaja, director of operation at AWkitchen. “Apart from that, at Pasta Marché customer could enjoy both pasta and pizza in Japanese Italian Umami style.”
At the tasting luncheon, Chef Akira Watanabe presented his famous Bagna Cauda using local Indonesian fresh vegetables which he selected carefully. The name came from Italian words, bagn-, meaning ‘bath’ and caldo, meaning ‘hot’. Bagna Cauda is a warm dip typical of Piedmont, Italy. The dish is served and consumed by dipping raw, boiled or roasted vegetables made with garlic, anchovies, olive oil, butter or cream.
The appetizer the dishes called antipasto misto that had tuna warp roll, pumpkin flan, temari of roast beef, temari of salmon with salmon roe, caprese pinchos, salmon tartar puff, fishball and taramo salad.
The next dish was cacao tariatelle with cream sauce of a mix mushroom. It’s a ribbon style pasta using cacao served with mix of Japanese mushroom cream sauce. Followed by Kumamoto wagyu tenderloin with truffle butter sauce. This wagyu tenderloin beef from Kumamoto Region and combined with Akira’s specialty truffle butter sauce; it came with apple jam and apple chips.
Finally, for dessert was matcha opera cake with houjicha ice cream; it is topped with pop-rock candy—poppy!
