Barong Bar Takeover By Mixologist From Savoy’s Beaufort Bar

Fairmont Jakarta is holding a series of events to bring the excitement of British cuisine and lifestyle to the city from 24 to 27 August 2017. Titled “When Jakarta Meets London – Bringing The Heritage of The Savoy to the City”, the events will showcase the expertise of guest chefs and mixologist who will be flown in from London to Jakarta.

One of the highlights is the mixologist from the Hotel’s sister property – The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar, Witek Wojaczek, who will be taking over Fairmont Jakarta’s Barong Bar on 25 August.

The Savoy’s bar has been nominated as the World’s Best Hotel Bar, and Barong Bar brings the mixologist, Witek Wojaczek – who is also the UK winner at the Toast of Paris Cocktail Competition in 2016 – to take over the bar where he will present the Savoy’s classic cocktails like Hanky Panky and Moonwalk, as well as Beaufort Bar’s signature cocktail stories.

Storytelling is at the heart of The Savoy, connecting the past, present and future of the celebrated historical hotel. Since the Beaufort Bar opened in 2010 (built on the hotel’s former cabaret stage), great cocktails have been created here, the most lavish parties have taken place, and yet more legends have been born. The Savoy believes that everyone has a tale to tell and invite them to discover their own stories about The Savoy.

Known for its theatrical drinks and dramatic décor, The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar showcases its cocktail menu that takes the form of a beautifully illustrated tunnel book, offering cocktails inspired by former patrons of this grand old building, including Frank Sinatra, Marlene Dietrich, Coco Chanel and Ernest Hemingway. Twisting strands from the Savoy’s illustrious history into a fascinating cocktail narrative, the menu takes guests on a tour of the hotel through its tales.

During this bar takeover, guests will have a chance to also taste Beaufort Bar cocktail stories such as Moonwalk (containing Grand Marnier, Rose Water, Grapefruit Bitters, Sugar Cube, Brut Champagne) was created to commemorate Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. This was the first drink he drank when he returned from his mission.

The Grass is always Greener is a mix of Bacardi Carta Ocho, Cognac, oak and acorn, coffee, dried fruit, and Louis Roederer Champagne. The title itself comes from a song in a musical legend, Women of the Year, where the Broadway artist, Marilyn Cooper was also a friend of The Savoy.

Seal of Approval (containing Bombay Sapphire gin, cinnamon Dubonnet and peach) is a nod to the Royal connection the hotel has with the Royal Family, so much so that the hotel used to have a special bell that rang in the directors corridor when any royalty arrived. One day the bell was accidently rung by a young page boy reporting for his first day at work.

During the Bar Takeover at Barong Bar, aside from enjoying the free-flow signature cocktails of Beaufort Bar, guests will be pampered with red carpet treatment and having the excitement on having cigar rollers and live entertainment. The lucky winner of the night will enjoy the prize of a weekend ride on a Jaguar including the chauffer.

Free-flow cocktails at Barong Bar will be available from 8 to 11 p.m., at Rp 788,000++/ person.
