Nautilus Bar Take Over: Nico De Soto

Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta’s Nautilus Take Over series invited Nicolas “Nico” De Soto, founder and owner of Mace NYC, to be the special guest bartender on Feb. 4.

Parisian Born and raised, Nico has made a lasting impression on the cocktail community around the world. He first began bartending in Paris in 2005 where he was trained in the art of classic cocktails. Some notable bars Nico has been part of include China Club, Mama Shelter, Experimental Cocktail Club, Curio Parlor, Dram and PKNY.

Nico opened his first cocktail bar Mace in the East Village in New York, which ranked 28th best bar in the world in Drinks International World’s Top 50 Best Bars for the second year in a row.

His approach to drinks is inspired by cuisine, always trying to create new flavors, combinations and techniques. He was in 2013 named in the top five most legendary bartenders in New York by Grandlife and won the award for the Most Influential French Bartender at the Cocktails & Spirits Bar Show 2014 in Paris.

Nico has also just opened Danico this year in Paris. His new bar inside the Galerie Vivienne was also nominated for Best New European Bar at the Bar Convention in Berlin.

Earlier this year, he was ranked 38th among the most influential French people in their 30s in French gastronomy; the only bartender on the list of 50 influencers.

Needless to say, Nico’s creations pumped up and enriched the Nautilus Bar, which was befitting as the bar aimed to be an ode to Jakarta’s rich history as an important seaport and a global hub of the spice trade.

With a mix of old world glamour, contemporary style and timeless sophistication, Nautilus draws in discerning guests to explore the rich flavors of the Spice Islands through the finest handcrafted cocktails, spirits, local flavours and luxury brands from around the world.
