Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta introduced JIA – the new signature Chinese restaurant that adds to the hotel’s dining collection, taking the place of the restaurant formerly known as Shang Palace.

JIA (which means “first” (Jiă) in Chinese) serves a line-up of delectable dim sums, sumptuous roasted fare and well-loved celebrated Chinese dishes: the blend of classic Chinese cuisine and stylish presentation with a twist.

With Tokyo-based firm Bond taking over its design duties, JIA features contemporary Chinese-inspired interior with more subdued shades of cobalt and a range of earth colors, geometric open-faced brick wall feature and modern ornamental wooden panels. The space also shines with industrial glass and brass fixtures.

The main dining area seats up to 122 guests, while six private dining rooms, named after iconic Chinese flowers, give diners a discreet option that seats up to 20 guests in each room.

Leading the culinary charge at JIA is Executive Chinese Chef Christopher Chai, who has been with Shangri La Hotel, Jakarta since 2008. Then the Chinese banquet chef, he left Jakarta for Edsa Shangri-La, Manila in 2012, where he worked for two years. He returned to Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta in 2014, proving that his enhanced culinary skills allowed him to lead the property’s Chinese kitchen team as the executive Chinese chef.

With accumulated wealth of experience in Chinese cuisine in almost two decades, Chef Chai has said that he aimed to serve the best of Chinese cuisine through his scrumptious dishes which are taken from traditional recipes with modern twist.

JIA’s signature dishes include Peking-Style Roasted Duck creations, home-made dim sum, freshly tossed la mien noodles, along with other premium Chinese barbecue, such as Crispy Roast Suckling Pig and live seafood. The signature Roast Duck is prepared in live open-oven stations in the main dining area.

Weekday lunch at JIA will have an exciting set menu that consists of a big bowl of la mien noodle creations, complete with dim sum and choice of appetiser or dessert. Weekends will be a feast of dim sum, wherein guests can savour an extensive list of especially house-made steamed, fried and premium dim sum at brunch.

Aside from extensive selections of premium Chinese tea, JIA also provide a unique cold brew Chinese tea crafted and bottled in-house. Adding a modern flair to the beverage selections, JIA provides a range of cocktails using fresh Asian ingredients, such as lychee, lemongrass, red chilli, ginger, passion fruit, rose and kumquat.

JIA is located on Level 1 of Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta and opens every day. Weekday lunch and dinner are served from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm and from 6 pm to 10.30 pm, respectively, while weekend lunch and dinner are served from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and from 6 pm to 10.30 pm, respectively.
