MAX GOT INTO vegetarianism after gaining a lot of weight in very short time from bad eating habit during his time as an accountant. He realized then that he needed to get back in shape and the healthy vegetarian way seemed to be working for him.

However, as he ventured into vegetarianism, something bothered him. As a regular   Joe who used to enjoy the savory red meat, he wondered whether green food can be as tasty and as enjoyable.

He decided to go into creating tasty green food and was surprised to find himself making leaps in cooking. He then took a giant leap into culinary and learned from the scratch by working as interns at Alchemist Garden raw food restaurant in Amsterdam.

Several months later, he came back to Jakarta and immediately started Burgreens in November 2013 with his wife, Helga Angelina, who is also a vegan. He implemented his idea in Burgreen’s dish: to cook food that taste naughty, but are actually healthy.

There are plant-based protein ingredients he loves to cook with, namely,  mushrooms and beans. Max feels blessed to live in Indonesia, because there are many choices of mushrooms and beans here, all abundant and cheap.

One his favorite dish is  Tempe Gomasho which uses tempe (fermented soybean cake) and mushroom. The seasoned tempe is filled with almond pesto and then wrapped in nori and sesame seeds. Garnished with salad, mushroom, and micro greens, that make the dish looks stunningly beautiful.

Max’ Tempe Gomasho is simply a dish that will blow anyone’s mind, especially those too familiar with the tempe. Come and visit him!
